I know an absolutely wonderful site.... www.google.com
We'll add this to the list of people who want to be spoonfed.
Dammit everyone stop saying go to ****ing google. If someone asks you if there is a site that tells them about yadda yadda, I'm sure they are asking about a high quality site that you would reccommend to them for reading. I can google and find a thousand pages on networking info, but the site posted above, which someone very nicely posted, is the best one I have seen.
In short, if you don't know of a good site to give to someone, then don't make a post saying
"GO FIND IT YOURSELF."
I'll take mikester2's position and say thanks for nothing HTregz.

there I improved on HTregz post....
Wow someone must have found the button for mr banda there.... He asked for a site and one was provided (the greatest search engine of all). No need to get all pissy about it. Personally I believe that the answer to all questions of where can i find this should be answered by the phrase "www.google.com". It's like asking my dad where something is, the reply i get is "the garage" and once its been pounded into a persons head long enough they will eventually quit asking and just go to the reference in question (google).
I believe its sorta like telling a person they are a "waste of life" everyday, eventually they just might start to think that they are indeed a waste of life. All we are doing is testing this theory to see if we mention google enough, that people will quit asking questions here but rather go ask mr. google
And so that my post doesnt seem like im <cough> flaming </cough> someone, I shall let you know that if asked nicely.... I could provide mikster2 with a copy of the ccna curriculum which he may find useful.
ps. its a bit outdated but beggers cant be choosers now can they.
Whee! Flame war!

Awwww.. I'm heartbroken LB... I flame you in another thread and this is how you decide to attempt to make yourself look big. If you're always going to strike out like this.. I suggest you stop stepping up to bat. You complimented your own post.... that's always pathetic... and then you said you took mikester2's position... yet I haven't seen him post since the original post.. leading me to believe he doesn't yet have a position. People have been told since before I even registered to search google. We all still hope one day people will learn to actually do so. He could have asked what the key concepts of networking were.... and then gone and researched those. He could have done a google search similar to soule's... hell he could have done a lot of things, but asking for links about key networking concepts. WTF would I give him a link and save him time when it took me time to find that link, when it's prolly already posted here on AO and when he could find it rather simple if he gave it even half an effort. If you have a problem with my reply.. to bad... learn to live with it, or stop playing ball.
Hey Darksnake, here is a great example.
You are in a town trying to find a little building where there is this concert you want to see. You pull over to a gas station and there is an old man up at the register. You ask him how to get to the venue and he tells you to go buy a map.
Now I am sure that is the answer that you would have been looking for isn't it Darksnake.
What guy asks for directions?? Seriously.. that's why we always get lost. Anyways... what's wrong with telling him to buy a map, he'd see the street on there wouldn't he? Even if he did answer, it's not the same. How do I get to this location is a lil more specific than are there any sites about networking.Quote:

I don't actually remember you flaming me and I don't care. I am just curious as to why you posted then. If are so worried about saving time then why did you take a minute out of your life of upmost importance to make a post that did little to solve a problem?
If you have a bookmark all you had to do was drag and drop it. Now how long would that have taken? All I am saying is if you aren't going to help someone, then why do anything at all. Another example because they are so fun to make:
Someone is on the side of the road trying to replace a tire and they really have no clue how to do it. Would you actually pull over and tell them that they could probobly read a manual and learn how to do that and then drive off?
Is anything sticking here or are you going to quote some more crap about playing baseball.
Hey dudes, thanks for those links, they were a great help !
Hmmm i'm really sorry, i didn't mean to start a war between you guys ... but i just want to add that if google.com was the reply to all posts then what would be the point in having a forum on this site ... i mean there might as well just be a big image saying GO TO GOOGLE !!
I know that google is a very good resource in the world of finding information (specially about computers/networks/programs etc) and i had indeed searched there before posting the question ... but i found that there were loads of sites, all with networking information, but some of them had too little (basically just an overview) whereas some of them had way to much for me. Anyway i decided to post because i have great respect for the society of AO members and i was hoping to acquire a link to a site that one of you guys found useful when you were learning about networking .... and i did, thank you very much lansing_banda dude!
Sorry again
The problem is, asking for "networking information" is WAY to general. Be a little bit more specific. Do you network security, routers, tcp/ip, udp, netbios, etc etc etc. Networking is a very broad term.
To use Lansing_Banda's example of asking for directions, its not like asking how to get to a stadium to see a concert. Its like asking how to get to the city. Well.. what city do you want to get to?
or the idea of replacing a tire... ask how to replace a tire, and you can get help. But when you call up a mechanic and say.. my car doesn't work, the mechanic doesn't tell you how to fix it.
now someone is goig to respond and say "well, why didn't you just ask him to be more specific to try and find out exactly what he wanted before just replying google" The reason is because mikester has over 50 posts so by that time, you would expect that he would know to be more specific. And if he doesn't, then a google search will help him so that he can determine exactly what he wants to know so that he can ask the proper question and get it answered.
Hi all,
