Hi All
I found the CD on Opportunity via the JPL site.
Can anyone clean it up and post it here ?
I am thinking it has a code as well...
It is a 1024 X 1024 JPG
Might as well get a jump on it....

Hope someone can clean it up a little bit. You sure it's not the same one as before? I'm gonna have to start trying to work on the first challenge myself. :)
I'll see what I can do with it.
Forgive me if I am lost. Perhaps I should know what you folks are chatting about, but honestly I have no idea. Anybody wanna fill me in?
Thanks in advance.
Sure dopey, we're talking about the challenge from:
https://planetary.org/redrover-dvd/dvd_clue.html
The following thread will fill you in on the information you've missed:

Code attached...don't know how accurate it is. I did what I could...I'll do it again at work on Monday if someone doesn't beat me to it (I've got better imaging software there).
Anyhow, from the looks of it, and I know it's early for speculation, but it seems to be encoded in glyphs. The glyphs seem to be made up of bits that have 5 possible settings per placeholder and 3 placeholders per glyph., which would mean 125 possible permeations per glyph.
Individual bit settings seem to be horizontal, and the placeholders are vertically stacked ontop of one another.
This one's gonna be much more complex than the last one!
My first thought was Brail (a method that the blind use to read text)
or even CW (Morse Code)
whee here we go again! :D
Seriously though it doesn't look like morse code the sequence seem wrong. then again it has been about 15 years since I used morse so i could be mistaken. I dont think I will be able to do anything better with the image but i will give it a shot.
Actually, Highlander, it appears to be very similar to braille, except it includes the use of dashes in addition to dots....maybe it's a braille-morse hybrid? I don't know. I'm working on the image now.......I'll post what I get.
Its neither Braille or Morse Code. Look at the hint page posted by Norrisk
That's for the 1st code from the rover Spirit. We're talking about the second code from the rover Opportunity. It hasn't been published yet, so we're just speculating.
What hint page ??
url ???
here is the link to the oportunity code pages.
oportunity dvd page
there are no clues posted yet as far I could see.
Thanks for the url
I think we have a jump on it.....
I guess a clue or 2 won't hurt either !! LOL!!
true :)
they do say that the same rules apply and that it is a much less complicated code. I havent had time to try it yet as i actually had to work this week updateing our servers :( . Been doing a couple of all nighters.
It would be nice to have one or two clues thought !!!!!
Why are there legos there?
Lego is a sponsor... Go old American Capitalism!!!
Whee time to crack another code :D
Only bad part is I won't be able to do much except read all of your hunches until a few clues come up because I don't have any imaging software, at work, to really build off an image yet ><
Until then..
n3rd
I know the feeling on the all nighters....
Dammed MyDoom flodded my servers
Now I can get back to some fun things
including catching up on sleep!!!
I was just taking a quick look at the photo on the site and it looks like there is three distinct pattern groups. the basic patternens seem to be made up of a grid of three line by two rows. I am just guessing from looking at the picture on the site so i may be tottally wrong. I will see if a couple of hours sleep will help . :)
People who think virii are cool are not the ones who will are stuck cleaning up the mess afterwards.
As of February 6, 2004, 296 people have cracked the Opportunity code!
as shown on the Opportunity Page
https://planetary.org/redrover-dvd/dvd_opportunity.html
I wonder if we are a bunch of WIMPS!!!
Well I figured out the code
and I will be I am a SOB!!! :D
My mother could have done it.....
And here is my proof!!!
Anyone else want to Kick them self....
Here is a clearer Picture....
No Dashes!!!!
And if you cannot figure out the code, you need to go back to grade school...
I guess we were all to red in the face to admit it!!!
My son could have solved it blindfolded! (and he's only 4!)
All I can get outta it is "E.T. Phone Home"
I guess his mother is worried!
