Reallyyy!!!!
Well deleting them before they can do any damage is great, but not getting them in the first place is much better. and rember keep your antivirus up to date and download the latest security patches.
Heheh Cheyenne :jester:
wow, I'm surprized you could even lite-off your computer with that infestation. Which ones were they? You obviously need to keep a AV program installed, updated more frequently, and scan. I check for updates at least every other day, and some AV's you can leave the auto-update feature on and everytime you go online, bingo, it does it automatically.
23, really? you're not yanking our chain are you?
edit: I was just shocked by the number and when HTRegz said he had one with 1125, I almost had a charmin moment....lol.
yeah, i don't know if they did any damage, is there a way to tell if they did? :confused:
Hey Hey,
23? Man that's nothing. I had a PC come in the other day, 1125 virii + 287 pieces of spyware. It was a sick, sick computer. Just remember to stay up to date. By default AVG scans @ 2am and updates @ 8am (if the defs are older than 14 days). I suggest you change the settings for updates, at the longest once a week. I have mine for once a week and then manually update every day.
Peace,
HT
relyt, i did get 23
wow, that is one sick computer!
Just make sure your AVG's pattern is up-to-date, I suggest after you update your pattern, then try to scan your pc again, because some of the viruses can't be detected by old pattern. One more important thing, you have to download and update your scanner engine. New engine provides more effective. If you want, you may try another AV, I think Norton is better for me...
Hope this can help...

Well, I've never had to work with a PC with that much virii on it, but I can top your spyware number... I fixed a friends' PC a few weeks ago, and after running an adware scan on his box, the list of detected adware was over 600 pieces long... I was amazed...
He keeps telling me that he feels like he has a new computer now that all the crap is out of it.. It actually runs like it should now..
AJBcoolman8,
Sorry to have to tell you this but AVG is NOT "the sharpest tool in the box"..................it is particularly poor at detecting trojans, particularly if "heuristic scanning" is not switched on.
I would suggest that you go to the Panda and PCCillin (Trend Microsystems) sites and run their online virus scans (one is Eastern Hemisphere, the other Western).
Then get SpyBot Search & Destroy and AdAware6................update them both.........boot into safe mode and run them.
Update AVG manually, and run it again in safe mode
Good luck :)
EDIT: I just c&pasted this from a post I made earlier............it applies to you also:
Two good tools that don't seem to conflict with anything..........presumably because they are detecting the actual infection process are:
Registry Prot:
http://www.diamondcs.com.au
and WinPatrol:

ok... how do i restart XP in safe mode, im not really sure how to do it
i updated AVG this morning and i scanned my computer again and i found 9 more :eek:
to restart XP in safe mode, keep hitting F8 during the time when your computer turns on. it should givve you a list of choices, pick safe mode. then login and scan.

Yeh and Remember to turn OFF system restore before removing Virii..
and re-enabling it AFTER a restart..
AND Install the proggies that nihil mentions..
as well get the system to MS update..
be more interesting if you could name the bloody virii you are finding..

as for records.. 2800 infected files in one machines virii Benjimen (spelling?) - guess what prg these guys were running.. and the share folder had a mish mash of malware..
oh and our record for parasiteware 285 (without the cookies - I clean that before running adaware or Spybot)
Hey I had one system last week with 6 varients of blaster
lol cheyenne1212
cheers
thanks slick ::jumpto::
AVG dont have good cleaning template. Im using AVG and it detected-deleted once a worm on my system. Yet, I was still doubting, wondering if my system is completely clean. So I checked the trendmirco online scanner http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and it detected an infected batch file in my system left by the worm. So if I were you i would check it again using trendmicro online scanner. Its for free and would take only a couple of minutes. Take the benefit of the doubt. Trend Micro online scanner is the only online scanner that received a certificate of 100% virus detection and a certificate of 100% effective cleaning template. :)
ok, thanks dood :rolleyes:
that housecall thingy only works on netscape, i have firefox... is there any alternative?
i think you misunderstood....is this the error you got?
thats be cause, IIRC, all mozilla based browsers identify as netscape. so download the program, it worked for me, and i'm in regular Mozilla.Quote:
HouseCall (for Netscape) installation
It appears that the required components for HouseCall are not currently installed on your computer.
To install HouseCall, do the following steps:
1. download this program ;
2. run it;
3. restart your Netscape browser.
slick
oh..... ok, thanks again slick :rolleyes:
Or you can open internet explorer - even though its not your default browser:
Go to start >> all programs >> windows update
Now you have a IE window open - just type the URL in for housecall and you can scan.
i sacnned my school (the first time it is being sacnned in 2 years after in has been bought) it had nearly 2000 viruses in it and it still has some more which i am not able to remove it. It is a hotzone of viruses
