hey i was wondering why cant you netsend over the internet to another friends computer??
is there such a program?
my teacher for networking wants us to figure out how those morons make those POPUPS appear on your screen.
i know about netsend(but that's for networks)...but is there a program i can use to do this?
i have 2 weeks to come up with this prog and to actually send him a popup from my house
or a computer.
i would appreciate the help
I study networking like you and am not aware of any such program, popups are ad's written into a web pages script, and they can be blocked, eg Norton Security. 'll see if I can find a program similar to what you want, but am highly doubtful of finding it.

I somehow doubt that that scenerio is true. It sounds highly suspect. However you send Messenger Service popups over the Internet the same as you do over a LAN. You use the netsend command, only for computer name you substitute the IP address.
As far as website pop-ups, those are a completely different thing, both can be used to provide useless spam, however with website pop-up ads you simply use a lil javascript, or something similar and tell it to create a new window and give it an html page to load in the new window.
I dont' have my laptop online later, and I don't want to release the page, but if you want to message me later, I wrote a simple script as a demo on pop-ups and the success rate of pop-up blockers. It generates around 10,000-15,000 pop-ups in under a minute. It will actually crash a computer which is why I'm reluctant to post a url linkign to it. I'll prolly protect the source before I demonstrate it to you.

i tried the IP ADDRESSSSSSSSS
it works perfectly when i'm in class sending it to my classmates
but i substituted it with an ip and it didnt work!
it says message alias cannot be located
fishy or not..a question is a question
i'm sure most ppl here would like to know how those ppl get popups to your screen!

And I gave you an answer, it's net send using the IP address. You have to take a few things into account. Does the ISP have an ACL to block netsend, does the user have a firewall running that would block netsend, has the person disabled the messenger service. All these things affect whether or not you see the Messenger Service ad. However I can guarentee you that using an IP address will work assuming nothing is blocked and the service is enabled.
Even though I said it was highly suspect, I still answered your question :)

how about i turned on my messenger
and i turned off my firewall
and sent it to myself
that's how i got the message
i dont plan on sending anything to anyone else!
i think my teacher said that your ip goes with the message
i'm just testing it on my computer and it didnt work!

Netsend uses netbios. I know because my old firewall would log them all the time.
now ISPs sometimes will stop a net send broadcast, as mentioned. So will firewalls, also as mentioned. Turning off netbios over TCP/Ip will too.
I doubt your teacher has anything to do with this. Do yourself a favor...

Why do you need a program for it?
Just go to a command line and type
net send <machine> "<message>"
Or, create a batch file to do whatever you want to do.
You can find both programs and code to do this. Just do some searching.
Also, anyone wishing to receive one of these messages must have the messenger service enabled. They will also have to let it through the firewall... which IMO they are an idiot if they do.

but remember that probably more than half of the computer population doesnt have a firewall or their messenger disabled!!!!!!!!
there's probably millions of ppl gettin angry at those popups lol
and yes he enable it ..and disabled his firewall so that we can do it

and under SOFTWARE/GROUP
type in net send
and they have a few progs that work!

i thought it was just spyware that gets on your system and sends net send messages to 127.0.0.1. i actually had someting like this on my comp once and i ran a spyware remover and i never saw the messages again. also, i was behind a router so it had to have been local.
i think that teacher should not teach kids how to use net send.
the most important thing is programming or micso$oft office. but after a week you will start sending netsend into friends computer or trying to play quake. and after that yourt computer will be unplugged from LAN :)
This topic sounds slightly nefarious to me.....just listen to HTRegz if you really want to know how to use netsend...failing that google it....
I wouldnt mess around with net send...I got suspended from school for 2 days for a:
NET SEND * Windows Error
It sent a message to every computer on the domain... Which was not cool...just be careful.
