Which Middle Eastern country has enough WMD's to destroy the entire region several times over? Which Middle Eastern country won't allow Inspectors access to any of it's weapons programs and imprisoned the "whistleblower" for leaking details of it's Nuclear Weapons Programs?

Not only that, but we basically sold (or gave, whichever one) them their weapons. I guess when your cool with "The Law" (The law in this case being the U.S) then you get looked past. Hypocrisy is definitely the case here.
Ahh now that I think of it though, you need to look at the intentions of the weapons. Iraq could have possibly used them for the wrong reasons. We highly doubt Israel would use them period.

As a Catholic no. But ask me how safe I felt going into Harlem immediately after a Jewish store got ransacked by locals for being "racist" (news comment not mine). In fact, I feel safe in the Muslim community here as much as I feel safe in the Jewish community here. Now, if I was muslim I don't know how safe I'd feel walking in Israel. It's takes a big man to stand up to a terrorist. It takes a bigger man to turn their check and walk away.
And while it may be "normal policy" it doesn't have to be status quo. For the longest time it was "normal policy" that whites and blacks in the US not associate with each other. God forbid if a white woman held hands with a black man. Heck, if I was living in the 30s with the relationship I have today (not married but long time living together -- 10 years -- with a chinese man) it'd be a sin and he'd be lynched for touching a white woman.
It is hypocritical of a nation to go around claiming that there are those with WMD who should be disarmed and yet turn a blind eye to those who are not only armed -- very knowingly -- but are willing to use them. I do not think that Sharon has been that far from the proverbial "red button".
Let's remember that Isreal has been reactionary with it's tactics and weaponry. Even during the first Iraq war, Isreal made it clear that it would stay out of the conflict, but also said that if Sadam dropped a chemical weapon on Isreal, then Isreal would nuke Baghdad till it glowed. (Paraphrased). The Jewish and old testament view is not to attack unless retaliation is required, (rule of 3 I think) and once retaliation is necessary then it is carried out 10 fold upon the enemy. I'm not saying this is right, it's just my understanding of Jewish doctrine. Maybe a authenic Jew can step forward and let me know where I got it wrong.

Umm look look at what are troops are curently doing in iraq, you may want t oredraw the good/evil line. Shooting at ambulances and pregnant women dosn't fall into the good catagory in my book.
Hell look at isrial, kicking someone out of their house at gun point because you like their land dosn't fall into the good catagory (the "settelers" are as much terrorists as Hamas), nor is stoneing women to death that try to pray in public.

I don't know if that's true. I have many jewish friends and many muslim friends, and they don't seem to mind each other. In fact, some of my muslim students have even invited me, if I do a bike tour of Persia, to visit their parents and to take me on tours of historical sites in Iran. There is no easy answer to this as the particular area that Israel and the Palestinians fight over is a holy area but to paint all muslims as evil is a bit extreme and very, IMHO, narrowminded. Something that the world needs less of these days.
I doubt, rcgreen, that this will change your point of view. You have your views and your beliefs. I have mine. So does every jewish person and every muslim person. Please remember, however, they are human. They are not perfect as you present yourself to be.
The US should not be in the position of "World Police" at all.

Someone had the brilliant idea after WWII to carve out a small portion of countries that hate Jews and have "Jew haterS" on three sides and water to their backs. north korea won their last war (kinda) but either way they didn't have a clause in a surrender agreement forbidding them from makes weapons above a certain kill range. their only breaking un agreements. and as for "where are the WMD?"...where are the ones they got from us? we know they got those. we gave them to them. i know, they forgot! but this isn't crank case oil that might eventually harm the fishies. these are things you remember where you dump them cause you might need to build a palace there someday.

The simple fact is that Israel is just as violent as any other country in the middle east, if not more so. Israel kills at least many hundred Palestinians in a year, yet you never hear about that, do you? Hamas has rejected peace offers, even when endorsed by Yasser Arafat. Israel has given in on most demands except removing Israel citizens from homes already built in Gaza and Golan Heights. I would be interested in alternative viewpoints as to how Israel has killed all methods toward peace offers?

Israel has already fought off Egypt, Syria, Jordan and more all at the same time and then in smaller wars until the late 60s. I would place money on Israel.

There is a large Muslim population in Israel, they also let Muslims visit by the millions because, like Catholics the land is holy to all. Israel is (in my opinion) very gracious in letting men and woman of faith visit the land, even when faced with the possibility one may be the next suicide bomber. I have had 2 things in Israel, the best steak ever, and the best human encounter of my life with a wonderful student in Tel Aviv. Catholics and other Christian faiths come in droves, and are welcome and admired. Even an agnostic or borderlin perma-atheist like me was welcome. Normal policy unrelated to whites and blacks, basically says. If you had WMD and haven’t used them for evil, like say gassing an entire village of Kurds in northern Iraq, then you can use them, assuming you had them before a Non-proliferation treaty was signed. Am I to understand that that treaty should be abolished?

I would imagine he would have been left in peace if he hadn’t invaded Kuwait and as gore put it toward a different objective, Ass Raped their people. I think he was saying there aren’t militant Jewish people running around the globe killing Olympic athletes and bombing trains. Of course it’s not safe in Israel, have you seen the mass media news? Just walking to a bus station means you are rolling the dice that Hamas will KILL you. There are Christians praying in Isreal all the time, I am sure this woman may not have the same social status, but she would be imprisoned in some muslim countries, others tolerate Christians but rarely Jews. Hmm now that I think about it I am not sure I have ever seen a Jewish faith center in any hard Muslim country. Don’t hold me to it but I don’t recall one outside of Turkiye. Saw some in Instanbul one weekend.

You should make a point, they are my favorite places on the planet. In fact based on some gauge of your personality, I would bet you would find a niche in a street market and perhaps never leave. If you earn the trust and respect of someone then nothing, is forbidden. Even in the strictest of societies, public and private matters of religion are often overlooked. But the penalty for open display of opium is stiff. In fact many areas don’t feed prisoners, so if you don’t have an agreement with family for food you starve. Or course a 10 in the pocket will Aleve just about anything as long as some political upshot isn’t vying for the sway of people at the time. We all see bad things in Israel and Arabs countries, in many cases those are justified and at the same time, I would rather visit areas of great majesty and beauty in Iraq and Turkiye, and even Jordan than Disney Land. Like any society there are criminals who may do those things. For instance when I first moved to Colorado a gay student was brutally murdered in Boulder by a group operating outside the law. Most countries do funnel tourists to "safe areas" via tour buses etc. I agree, but I can tell you I spent a lot of time rummaging around and I never witnessed anything you mention. I am sure they happen, but sponsored by the state and Israeli society as a whole? Not buying it. There law does state Israel is a Jewish state and they have no constitution, but they do recognize 10 Christian denominations, granted they don’t have representation or majority support in the government but so what, it’s a Jewish state, I don’t get the concern? You don’t live in a Baptist town in Georgia and expect to be loved and admired as a Catholic? I am not even overly concerned with Muslim dominance in countries where Christians are arrested, except when the hold them in jail versus exportation or they commit genocide on their own people for fun and a good laugh over cognac.
I am sure some gain advantage by the state of Israel, just like others will gain advantage with its demise. Perhaps some will get their wish and the Jews will be exterminated, since post war Germans failed at the task. I nearly try and state history. It's not as evil or black and white or something anywhere along the lines that Israel is where they are today because they initiated attacks and stole property and invaded Palestine territory. They were attacked, they won. They were given land to share by a league of nations that defeated aggressors in the early part of the last century. Some settlers are very agressive I agree, they've lived in turmoil their whole lives, and when Israel gave control of occupied territories to Palestine authority, they found themselves in a very ****ed up position, hating everyone – the Palestine’s, their own government, the United States, you name it. Some radicals were even abandoned for non-compliance.
Curfew is there because of terrorist attacks; both internal and external. No secret Israel has it’s own problems with people who want a different outcome in the territories, in fact if you remember is was an Israeli youth that assassinated Rabin. Many Middle Eastern countries have curfew, I don't see that as unusual. In some, as I have stated before in another thread, stop all road traffic between cities at night. Very different.

But I still say, they did not have the holy lands before they were attacked for living there. So why didn’t they all try some peace before attacking the New State? everyone who commits a horrendous act (no matter how horrible it seems to us in retrospect, at the time it is being committed has a valid perfected good reason for doing it, at least in his own mind. so now, the government is convinced of their right to execute in certain cases, for their own perfectly good reasons. hmmm.....
justice doesn't exist, poor non-white, non-middle class.....we are a capitolistic society and justice is bought just like everything else.
so i have to admit i don't follow the mid-east stuff so don't feel i can even make a comment. but looking at the state of the union, (and not through those rose colored glasses), i really wonder why more money and energy is not spent here fixing our own problems (like the decline of the school system...just for one), instead of fixing other ppl's problems. but its always easier to look afar and fix anothers problem rather than look at your own and fix them. just an opinion...now i'm not anti-american, or even anti-war if it needs be....
Everytime I see Arafat on TV or in and Article I think back over the years. I really can't believe he is still alive. Israel has little resistance because Hamas has a long standing history of exteme violence. Even some palestines are scared to death of them. They are a secret army that walks among them.Quote:

Back in the USA we've been throwing money and resources at schools, the homeless, etc for over 40 years. Social programs are not working and vast changes will never come because they are too radical and less important than getting policitacl parties power. Part of the reason is because many never take a moment to address issues, instead of candidates or their own personal BS. For example:
The schools are producing stupid kids. Let's toss in more money, well they are more stupid. Let's remove responsiblity for grades, test scores are lower. Let's let them be their own little adults, test scores lower, let's remove competition, test score lower. Let's remove testing, kids can't point out Mississppi on a map let alone spell it. So for now, and the near future, live with what you got. Even taking a critical eye to the USA brings up a rosey picture at the future vs. what could have been based on historical context of other countries.
