Ok, well first off, I'm new here so go easy on me :D .
I was wondering if its possible to use a wireless router on a computer (with dialup) to have a connection with another computer. I live out in the boonies so no dsl or cable :( . I was wanting to be able to have two computers online with 1 phone line and was wondering if there was anyway to do that. Thanks guys.

you can definitely use a router to network two computers, you do not need internet access to do this. unfortunately you cannot have a computer online and use your telephone at the same time with a dial up connection.

Yes, you can share a single dial-up internet connection between multiple computers.....just don't expect much speed from it.
What opperating systems are the computers running, what hardware are you working with? (i.e modems, NIC cards, routers....)
If using windows, there's always Internet connection sharing.

I use one phone line for the computer dial up and one for the telephone. Could I connect both of them on one line in that case? I use AOL :o (I persist my parents to switch ISPs), will that be a problem with the internet connection of the network? Also, how would I go about setting up the network so I could file share and stuff.Quote:

On the main computer I'm running Windows XP and on this one (the one I want to make the client) is Windows ME. I have a Microsoft Wireless 802.11g Base Station....I got a AirPlus Xtreme G...but the retarded thing wouldnt fit in the client computer (my so proclaimed computer guru friend showed me which one to get). When I put it in this computer the metal part that shows with the blinking lights and the antenna is all upside down, I dont think that can be good...Is it the wrong kind of slot or what?Quote:

As for sharing the connection between two computers... faqt has the right idea about using internet connection sharing. I just skimmed the microsoft help system about ICS and it would work for you. You would need to setup a network between the two computers. This would easily be done with a crossover cat-5 network cable between the two computers (using network/nic/ethernet cards). You can pick-up cheap ass network cards for like $6, or good ones for about $20. You could always go off the deep end and drop $60 for a 1000mbps card, but that's a little overkill for sharing a network connection.

Heh...my dad tried that with a service called "Direcway". Every two weeks or so the connection would just stop, every once in a while we had to take off the cables in the back and cross the pins to get rid of static electricity. It got worse and worse then it just pooped out completely :rolleyes: . Yea the tech support sucked because you had to stay on the phone for like 2 hours and no one came to fix it. It is my understanding that as long as you switch those 2 wires, it becomes a cross over. But I'm not sure if there would be any loss in data integrity. I've never created a network cable, but I watched a friend of mine set the wires in the connectors.
