We demand free access to information. Which comes with some responsibility. If you really wish to take what you see on television and apply it to life, then you have bigger problems to worry about. Personally I like Tech Tv. Yeah some of the stuff they talk about makes me say WTF? While morale standing might come into play. They might actually teach somebody something new. After all, (white or black if you will) isn't that why we do what we do. Isn't life a big game? Isn't the internet a big chess game? Don't take life too seriously, after all nobody gets out alive.

Man, the point that I as well as others are trying to make is media responsiblity! Having said that, Tech TV carries some weight with some people "for examples kids"! If some kid reads this off of their website and they think that it is OK and they do try it, it could land someone in trouble.
And no this is not about cencoreship! This info and even more damaging info can be had on the internet! It's all about responsible reporting! And in this they have failed!

Let me see, giving people cut and dry information. Yet expecting them not to ask questions. Sounds like communism in a way. We are in America(most of us perhaps). Let me tell you what I see happening in the future. Computers are going to follow the automotive industry. Some punk kid puts sugar in the tank, car gets messed up. You take it to get it repaired because you can't fix it yourself(most of you perhaps). Kid disables AV and installs server, you can't fix it so you take it get it repaired.Quote:

This keeps the fat cats happy. This is how the economy supports the capitalistic society we have. I personally applaud Tech TV for bringing these things to light. Point you ask? If you own a device mechanical or electronic, and you can't keep it up and running based on your own ignorance. Then I say you deserve what ever happens to you.
Any mod wanna move this to chit chat perhaps?

Hey Hey,
TechTV is a great resourse for those without much computer background, and occasionally for those of us that know what we are doing. Would I say they've gone over the line? Never. Could they have presented this in a better context... definately. The sad truth is, that anyone who is going to use this maliciously already knows about it. Netbus is one of the most common names in the trojan world. However it's also one of the oldest, Almost all AV software will pick up this program and remove it for you, some will even prevent you from running it in the first place. They could have used much more modern software, something that may be more of a challenge to clean or remove. While they presented this in a "dark and evil" way, I think that's more of an attention grabber than anything. We all watch the news, but none of us care about furry kittens, or someone who donated to the local homeless shelter. We watch for the deaths, the accidents, the murders, ... the juicy stuff. I'm going to say that at one point or another the majority of the members on this site have followed a police car, ambulance or fire truck just to see what happened. By our very nature we are intrigued by what is "dark and evil"... Everyone has a dark side, it's just whether or not they are in control, or even care. By presenting it in this matter, more people will see this information, and more people will be aware that it is possible. While to you it seems dangerous and improper. To me it seems informative. You claim this isn't about censorship, it's about media responsibility. You are completely wrong. If you have a problem with this you are talking about censorship, plain and simple. The media is providing information, who cares how they provide it. That article looked dangerous and scary to those with no knowledge of the topic, however what it just did is tell them that this is possible and people shouldn't do this. What did I learn: Not to disable my AV, especially when people send me software... not to trust people when they try to send me small executable files... that if odd things start happening I could have an infection... and the list goes on. If you don't like it, don't pay attention. As much as I feel their programming is mainly a joke for those with actual IT knowledge, they always find a way to get peoples interest. Once again they have succeeded and I say kudos to them for informing the public.
Peace,
HT

Tv, resposible reporting, ever watch fox hahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahaha, I think there are a lot more irresponsible reporters out there than tech tv talking about trojans. ~50% of americans believing that saddam and osama are in league and that there were wmd is far more disgusting/tragic/sad than a story on trojans.

As I originately stated, this info is widely available on the internet, no secret there but, for a new/media agency, they do have awith their reporting!
Do I believe in censorship, NO! Do I believe in media responsibility? Yes! Do I stand by my assertions? 100% So don't you or anyone else stick words in my mouth! Period!

I just checked out the site. If anything, they are making the public more aware by playing the part of the devils advocate. There isn't really much useful information in terms of exactly how to do it (hack with NetBus ); rather they are removing the veil of ignorance. Its about the same as spending an evening with google and searching for "hacking toolz".
I believe that the ignorantia is the first group to cry foul. The very fact that they do not know, understand, or might even want to learn about what you can do with IT, is reason for them to fear IT. Yet at the same time they blindingly consume all kinds of software. They click on
e-mails, download software from sites they have no clue about, browse porn and get their browser jacked, etc.etc.
So you either accept the fact that the net is not "safe" and get up to speed and learn what is going on or get WebTV. Or take up bowling...censorship is not the solution, knowledge is by far the better defense or weapon, however one wants to look at it.
It is so funny, everyone is just 'dying' to get connected, and when they "get connected", they wonder what went wrong! :bawling:

I am wondering wher censorship came ito this thread.. and from your first post.. where did you post your intent?

Thank you for that straight forward response! Sometimes I perceive responses in different fashions and I guess tonight that I did!
Goodnight all!

lol Netbus? That's like taking an article about SATAN seriously. Perhaps in 1997 this would have been a document worthy of note. I take the side that it's a good article to let those who are operating 9 year old operating systems that there are actually programs that can open doors into one's trusted little world. In fact there are hundreds if not thousands of them. Even a virus scanner that hasn't had any updates since 2000 will pick up netbus.

It's a "Dark Tip". That's exactly the type of thing I'd expect only more up to date. Although, sometimes the old trojans work just as well. I'm constantly amazed at how many times I read (on this forum) that people aren't running *any* Antivirus program on their Windows box and have not kept up on patches. It shows too because my Email gateway is still picking up on incoming FunLove viruses.

There is freedom of information act so, they can put pretty much wahtever they like as long as its not like really really bad stuff... and u cant really make them stop. but i agree disabling someones AV is not good.
This quote cracked me up...
"Today's Dark Tip will make you as cool as all those hackers in the movies."
Get your Netbus and Sub 7 out Zero Cool... :D
TechTv needs to keep reporting on things like this...

I seriously dont see anything wrong with what TechTV did. I dont have techTV at my home cuz...well I'm only paying 10 bucks a month for cable.
Have they gone too far? Not at all. No matter how basic they put it, you still have a ton of ****tards out there which have no clue wtf tech tv was talking about so no harm done there. Those who actually know a little bit about computers, now know how its done, and they could perhaps prevent it from happenting to them. Let me give you an example...If you didn't know that you could send viruses and trojans and whatnot by direct connecting to your buddy on AIM, would you be more cautious about what who you connect with and what files you accept?
My 2 cent....every ****tard dick joe and jane know how to walk to their bookstore, or school library, or internet if they really wanted to know how to hack....its old news...especially Netbus...c'mon....I better hide my sub7 cuz I think the FBI is after me! Jarrod tipped them off...drunken bastard!
They promised me a lifetime supply of Corona to turn you in. I couldnt resist. ;)Quote:
