Hi and welcome to AO. :)
I would think the person who password-protected it would have the password. You are referring to StuffIt files right (re: .sit)? Do you at least know the version?
Thanks for the nice welcome :)
Yep, I'm referring to StuffIt-files. I've got some .sit-files that I need to open, but they're protected by a password! When I run the files through my StuffIt-Expander I'm prompted with this password that I don't know of!
Sorry, don't know the version eather...
I'm a completely lost here??
Thanks!
Try Belarc Advisor, is is pretty good about telling you what versions of software you have, or (I don't use stuffit) probably "help" and "about" in the expander.
Cheers
Have you spoken to the person that password protected it?Quote:

To MsMittens:
I've tried to contact the password-owner but he doesn't reply my mails, so I'm a bit ****ed here! Perhaps I could upload one of the .sit-files and let any of you gentlemen have a go at it?
Cheers!

You can get an advisor to tell you the versin and maby a pass cracker can get them a file pass cracker never used them but they may work.
Couple of pretty simple questions:-
1. Who's drive is this? Your's, your employers...... ?
2. You say you know the owner but he won't reply.... That indicates that he might not want you opening them. Might that be correct?
3. What do you think that they contain that would be of interest to you?
what is "stuffit" anyways? Some kind of compressor?

StuffIt is the best compression format available today! And the StuffIt Family of products is designed to meet any level of compression needs; from basic expansion, to advanced archive manipulation, to automating routine compression tasks, and even building compression into a software application.

A common file compression utility for Macintoshes. Compressed files are referred to as "stuffed" and usually end with a ".sit" file extension. A special kind of stuffed file is self-extracting and ends with a ".sea" extension. Stuffed binary files can be converted to ASCII format for transfer over the Internet; such files have a ".sit.hqx" or ".sea.hqx" extension.
Thanks for the fast reply, I am now that much more knowledgable then I was 10 minutes ago :p .
Ok people,
The .sit-files contain some logotypes that one of my former freelancers have made and I need to open them and adjust some things...
I know there is a lot of zip-password-retrievers out there... so why not a .sit-version??
Thanks again

My dear chap, and with the greatest respect:
What version of stuffit...........is it an XT compatible or a Mac?
With the amount of information we currently have I doubt if Langley could help you better.
Sure there are lots of "cracks" for WinZip and so on..............you are talking something different here?
I will now ask you some questions:
So, are you aware of copyright law?...........did you pay the person in accordance with your agreement?Quote:

If you did, how the F*** did you pay for something that you obviously do not physically own?
Please do not come onto a site such as ours and expect advice on how to do things like this when we know jack **** about you.............
To measure how serious you are............just how much are you prepared to pay for "private consultancy"?
 :D
