Jeralcker Banned.
Uncool, he barely speaks english, is a student in bogota, and was probably doing some sort of research.
Unban him. He is a good guy, and has been private messaging me for help for a long time now, we've become friends, he did nothing wrong. It was in general chit chat. Who cares if it was a lame post, it was in gcc.
edit: and no, he didn't ask me to request his re-membership, i dont speak to him outside of AO. i simply noticed he'd been banned, and was appalled. He doesn't come to the site to post randomly or disturb others, he seriously comes here to learn, and reads posts. Then when he has problems he asked me or others im sure in pm what certain things mean. He uses babelfish to translate.

couldn't he just create a new username?
-
wouldn't it be better to just unban him?
why should he have to create a new user name? Its bullshit that he was banned in the first place.
I hope i don't sound too edgy about this, i'll still be able to sleep at night, its just annoying.

Negative >> Terr >> MsM >> Ennis >> Someone move this to site suggestions please, its not receiving any attention.
-
It's not a site suggestion. And I suspect that most people agree with the comment by djscribble.
-
MsM >> you give me justification for his banning, and i will understand why most people agree. Would you like to start all over ? Cause i wouldn't. He did nothing wrong. And its a site suggestion every bit as much as any. I suggest that the people that run the site de-ban him. It would make ao a better place, as in the description of the forum. or rather just "better" simply because the admins would care about people being banned for no reason at all.
-
Speak to the members who banned him. This isn't something that was done by JUPM or the mods. This was evidentally done by individual members who had whatever issue with him. Given the number of posts he has (32) it's isn't that much for him to simply create a new account.
In addition, eventhough he is banned you can a) click on his email option to email him and b) add him to an AIM account.
-
i can still talk to him yes, thats really beside the point. The point is, it was an injustice. if i talk to the members that negged him to death, that wont do him anygood. I know jupm didnt have anything to do with it of course, he should simply be unbanned. but i give up

Sigh. And it repeats itself regularly. Unless Senior members take a stand about this when it happens (rather than after the fact) it will continue to happen. He wasn't the first. This idea of asking Seniors (who have some nasty hit levels) to lay off of negging those where english is a 2nd language or to ask first for clarification would be something that people have to encourage the community to do. Even if he's unbanned (or rather unnegged), what is stopping the community from doing the same thing.. over and over and over again.
If you think that he has be unfairly negged (and AP alliance or targetting), I can look into that and see if there is anything there.
-
It wouldn't be fair, er0k... he got banned by the AntiPoints System, and as long as there were no neggings against the rules, I don't think we should interfere...
Unbanning him would lead to numerous other requests from members who think they were unfairly banned by the system...

nah i dont think it was anything like that don't bother. i understand. if i would have been around internet access i probably would have seen the problem and been able to stop it, but alas i wasnt. i understand that as well neg, but i figured since this was very recent, (i posted it originally right after the banning, a day or so..) that it might be different. O well, can't win em all ! btw neg what're you doing up so early?
-
Being woken up by two babies :)
And Mel has to leave for work in ummm... minus 17 minutes :D
-
ah tell her i said to have a good day.. and not to worry about programming too much ;)
btw: i havent gone to bed yet.. beer and sleeping pills just aren't working.
-
I was very pissed to see what he was banned for and I believe IT IS ANTIPOINT ABUSE to neg because you don't like people who don't speak/write english perfect. Shall i go around negging everyperson who does not phrase their question/statement as i like?. It was pure and simple childish ignorance that got him banned there was NO valid reason.
-
just went back and looked at his posts and it is because of his grammer he was banned. if i were he i wouldn't want to come back after being treated like that. i can only imagine what the AP messages said. one would think that might be considered abuse
-
It is an abuse of the antipoints system to neg someone because they are using bad grammer - ENGLISH IS NOT HIS FIRST LANGUAGE!!!!!!
I speak 3 other languages besides English and am thus involved in forums with similar systems as the antipoints system in those languages.......As well as I may speak these languages I know that my grammar is not always right........but I have never incurred abuse because of it..........Is this an occurence stemmed solely from the arrogance of native english speakers?
We all have seen posts from people whose mother tongue is english and the spelling, grammar and punctuation is often so atrocious we don't even bother to try and decypher the whole thing........but we don't neg it - we know that to communicate in such an inane manner one has to be a native of english...............
I am sure it was on antionline that I read a tip of the day from someone about using proper punctuation so your point is more clearly made - or at least some sort of punctuation.......and its the natives of a language who are the worst at it and the first to get away with it.
As for making him create a new ID....that is his ID and it means something to him.
I have been a member of antionline for almost 3 years, I don't post alot - it is a learning tool for me - - -But I would be gutted if I had to change how I am known here or on any other forum.
His English may not be as good as ours but you can bet your asses that his Spanish is........................Give the guy a break - its not like he was starting trouble or being a nuisance.
