It wont connect.....under network connections, in status it says connected, but i cant get on the internet (cant ping cant get on erinet, nothing). I tried repairing it and all it says failed to renew ip address.....btw im using Windows Xp
Any suggestions????

Use the 'Internet connection wizard'
In W2K R/clk 'my network places' on your desktop.
click on properties.
click on 'make new connection'.
Do you have the correct drivers on your new box ?
-
Install the drivers and software that came with your cable modem for your old box.
-
tried all of that, but when i put in my cable modem cd to configure, it says you do not have a NIC card.......but i just bought it and its connected

Was your old pc running win xp????

My best guess would be mac authentication then. Get intouch with your isp, and explane you have a new pc.

lol just got off the phone with them and they are stumped, i have to call back to get an 'expert'

A few things I would try.
1.Go to the control panel and check the device manager and see if there is a yellow exclamation mark where the Nic card is located.
2.shutdown your computer and unplug the modem for about 30 seconds and then replug it in and then restart your computer
3.Go to your internet options and make sure Never dial a connection is selected.

yeah ive tried all of that, thanks tho

Assuming your isp asignes you an ip address.
Go to your connection, properties and make sure tcp/ip is installed. Then highlight tcp/ip and click properties make sure obtain an ip address automatically is checked and obtain dns is checked.

me too had same problem and result was that server at your isp identifies your IP address only along with your MAC address, one thing you can do is use old NIC or just phone your ISP to register your new MAC address with your IP address. That will solve the problem.
Any body here knows how to configure cyberoam client for suse linux 9.1 as i have posted abt it earlier but no success and i can only access net with win xp box. I'm using client supplied by cyberoam website(24 hr online). Thanx

Hi,
So you say that you have the correct drivers installed. then in that case, go to start>Run>type services.msc and then stop the Internet connection firewall or may be you should check all the services to see which one of them might be blocking, Normally this is not the problem, but you might just want to look into it.
the othet thing is that once you type ipconfig /all do you get an ip address also do you have the gateway , DNs etc.. address listed there, if any of them is missing then probably you need to start the DNS client and the DHCP client service . Let us know if they all are started .
