Are you just trying to receive email addressed to your hotmail account, with out having to goto hotmail.com and logging in?
on my college email, i can do something called "Recieve Other Email" so i dont have to log onto hotmail, i can just get both school and hotmail email from one place. In the required fields it has
Account Type: IMAP4
Incoming Mail Server:
E-mail Address:
User ID:
Password:
Confirm Password:
If you want to be able to accept hotmail through another mail client you are going to have to set it up as an HTTP connection and not a POP3.
Once you do this you simply type your email address, username and password.

I dont think i can change my connection, can i?
Um, I am not sure what type of program you are working with but I would see if you can change the account type and if not see if you enter HTTP in the mail server or something like mail.hotmail.com and see if that works.

What email client are you using in collage?
If you can use outlook express as soon as you put a hotmail address in to a new account setup it fills in all the deatails for you, all you need to put in is your password
If you manage set it up a a http client the server url for hotmail is http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
its not outlook, its something the school has set up. I can only change to either POP or IMAP
I have used a perl script called Gotmail to grab hotmail and it works pretty good.
sourceforge.net/projects/gotmail
can i still use it if im not running unix based OS? im using Windows Xp
It's a server side script but I thought I would add the link in case you or someone else could use it.Quote:

Althought not very popular, recent versions of Outlook and Outlook Express support tapping into hotmail directly IIRC.
Many here in this forum including myself would advise against using either for security reasons.

What is the name of the mail client your college is using? That will help us better troubleshoot for you.
