Of course, the question is why are people voting for Kerry? Seems more of a reaction of what they don't want rather than what they do want (and that can sometimes get you elected as was recently evidenced in both the Ontario Provincial election and the Canadian federal elections).
People outside the USA will vote the way the media machine desires.
And people inside the USA won't? The media in the US is more "truthful" in their reporting? ;)Quote:

Uh huh. Sure...
Of course they will vote toward media coverage. But living here and seeing first hand versus getting it only from news sources is a major difference. ;) Heck all they have to do is watch 60 minutes or CNN and we know CNN is everywhere.
Foreigners have no right to vote for anything American! What is American stays American. I not a patriot bigot but its a princple that needs to be uplifted! Last time I heard the UN was trying to do that very thing  . The day when foreigners run this country from bottom up will be when we will lose our "freedoms".
argh. its just an research .. cool down.Quote:

BTW, i think that most vote for Kerry just because there is only 2 options. Perhaps if there is 3 like Bush, Kerry or anybody else, anybody else will win....
Boy, that makes me feel all warm and fussy all over.
And what would happen if the whole world could vote in the European Union? :drink:
I've never understood that "seeing first hand"-thingy... I've heard that reply ("you are influenced by the media, you only know what you see in the media") one too many times - last time it was used for the entire Iraq-debate. What else do you base your judgement on? Personal interviews with both candidates or something?
Media abroad are usually way better at reporting objectively on American matters than American media are. I can watch CNN, Fox, ABC, CBS and all the others for 24 hours, hear ten different sides to a story, and still don't know the story itself. I usually have to get it from foreign media.
Kurt > Don't forget that 99% of Americans are "foreigners" ;)
And non-Americans have every right to vote for whatever they want. It doesn't count, but they can vote all they want...
I voted if we wanted Cheeseburgers on thursdays at my high school :D
Great post Neg.
W00t!!! Kerry WINS!!!
LMAO
ahh breath kurt breath ooooo lol jk I'm dishing out some thoughts though.Quote:

yes that is a true point. but the true "American" is American by thought and mind set not by blood. I'm german, the guy next to me is belgian, the other mexican, russian, french, and so on.Quote:
Kurt > Don't forget that 99% of Americans are "foreigners"
Nagative I could go on for hours about what I have seen first hand and what the media reports. You would argue world influence is not a direct result of American media and that the media tends to drastically call events on a single side of issues. Let me take a look at just recent events. Swiftboats. It was weeks before any of their stories were told on any media outlet with national syndication showed them. Then it was not about what they were saying it was about who was behind it. That was over 200 people making a position on a subject that happens to be Kerry and his term in Vietnam. Then like 10 hours after some guy comes forward saying he influenced Bush's guard duty he's on 60 minutes stating how impatial he is while he's one of the democratic top leaders. No whisp of "who could be behind" his single story. That then gets broadcast ALL OVER the globe. If you lived outside this country the swift boat veterans would not be heard at all. That is only one tiny example. I don't know how many times I have hears discrete lies about bills and documents and scenarios only to uncover they are false from the very beginning and INTENTIONAL. Got to go but I could have ranted further. :D
Oh as for the "seeing first hand" in terms of America? We americans see first hand that through government documents Sandy Berger stold things, and it was on page 7 of the New York times and is now gone from puplic view.
Surely this is the best sign yet to Americans that they need to vote Bush back in. C'mon, if the world wants rid of him that much he's definitely doing something right....
Popularity is no measure of effectiveness....... Period!!!!
Nice try Tiger... The US is hated by almost every nation on our planet, because of Bush. I really would like to visit other countries some day. Right now is not a good time for any American to visit any country. I think that being one of the worlds great powers it is better to be loved than lost.
i dont hate americans in general, just Tiger Shark :shootem:
Albania likes America :)Quote:

Then go visit..... Quit being a puss..... There are plenty of places out there where you are quite safe... and well liked.... Don't use it as an excuse to hide between the two coasts....Quote:

caca:
Yes, this time I'm spelling your name wrong deliberately.... Because it pisses you off so much... The first two times were an accident... But, that aside....
Do you people from near third world countries still recognize a Union Jack? I'm not a Yank, I'm a Brit.... So, therefore, you should like me again..... :pQuote:
i dont hate americans in general, just Tiger Shark
So do a lot of countries.... The countries that are democratic, that have a few gonads lying around and that are smart enough to understand that if someone doesn't do something we'll all have nice arab sheiks using our posteriors for pleasure before you know it!!!!Quote:

Hmmmmm.......If the world could vote?.........Hmmmmmmm?
1. The ACLU would successfully lobby to have the fictitional voting laws ammended resulting in only allowing "like minded" individuals to fillout voter regisration cards.
2. History would be re-written to say that France won WWII single handedly, and everyone would have to drink imported water from France. (This takes care of their national debt)
3. Christianity would be deemed as devil worshiping and radical Islamic factions would be given reward money for each Christian head they could collect.
4. The USA would no longer be allowed to participate in the Olympics, under the suspicion of being to superior for the competition, therefore they must somehow be cheating.
5. PETA would eventually garner the votes to force everyone to become a vegetarian.
6. Middle Eastern countries would go bankrupt and begin starving, because the world wide Green Party would outlow the use of fossil fuels.
7. Korea would once again become unified under the dictatorship of North Korea.
8. Most South Africans would end up dying of aids, because all the countries fighting for the money that America "owes them", would end up in The World Court's litication process for several thousand years.
9. The U.N. could be disbanded because the agressor is always justified, unless it is the USA of course, therefore making the U.N. obsolete.
10. The Euro would become the standard for all economic transactions causing the per capita value to plummet for countries wealthier than others, making the Euro practically useless....Oh yeah.. It already is.
Just poking some fun guys. :D
3.
ernie is right.. the us IS hated by most of the world. I have been to the north and south of egypt, most of england, and italy/greece, mexico, and canada.. and i haven't been to one place without someone mentioning how much they hate bush.
In fact, a little boy in egypt told me " I hate George Bush, i want to cut his head off. He hate people like me just because im muslim." Then he said "But i love america, very nice people."
Interesting.... There's a dichotomy... He hates Bush but he likes America. Did you ask him why he hates Bush? Bearing in mind he has never met Bush, probably never had his young life affected by Bush but has probably heard lots of adults complaining about Bush.Quote:
In fact, a little boy in egypt told me " I hate George Bush, i want to cut his head off. He hate people like me just because im muslim." Then he said "But i love america, very nice people."
OTOH, he likes Americans..... Hmmm.... Bush is an American... Bush was voted in by Americans, (lets not argue the point on that), but he separates the two.... A little odd isn't it...
Funnily enough, the country I have found to hate the Americans the most is America itself.....
Just an observation from an outsider....
When did president bush become america? He likes the americans he has met, but doesnt like george bush because of the hatred he has brought upon his people. Everyone over there absolutley despises the man. They have posters depiciting his death, etc etc. And Egyptians are nice people. Seriously. Very nice people. Before bush became president, hardly anyone in my town that i knew was blatantly racist against middle eastern people. Now, nearly everyone says **** like "those ****ing ragheads, or sand niggers" stupid idiotic **** like that. And they do this because Bush, whether you all like it or not, has made it sound to the lamen american person, that every muslim is a bad person. We intelligent folk definitley know that isn't true, but the general populous thinks the opposite. I promise that is a fact in my city.
Ouch! What have I ever done to you to deserve that type of reaction? Grow up dude!Quote:
Then go visit..... Quit being a puss..... There are plenty of places out there where you are quite safe... and well liked.... Don't use it as an excuse to hide between the two coasts....
Erok, old mate.... This is where you have to understand that there are two kinds of people.... The stupid and the smart..... The world is utterly separated down those lines and the spread is similar in every country. Unfortunately, the stupid outnumber the smart by about 5-10:1.Quote:
We intelligent folk definitley know that isn't true, but the general populous thinks the opposite
The dimwits that run around your town calling them all "ragheads" are in the group known as "stupid".... OTOH, there are plenty in arab countries that have a similar or lesser IQ. Unfortunately too, in many of the countries you discuss, you will find that many who have an IQ at a level that places them in the smart group are denied the education required to be able to fully utilize the gift.... Which means they end up being used. It's a common tactic in less well developed countries or in certain ideologies to keep the people uneducated because then they are easier to manipulate.....
Don't you find it "odd" that a child that has never met Bush _hates_ him.... But he likes Americans? I do.... It doesn't make sense.....
[Edit]
AE: You asked what you did to deserve that.....
.... and you were told that by who..... Go out and visit and find out for yourself... Don't sit here and listen to CNN and think that is the truth.... Do it... No-one hates you except for a few places.... and don't think for a second that it was Bush that caused it.... They were planning 9/11 when Clinton took office..... Bush was irrelevant when they started.... They hated America..... Well, Oh dear me.... You're not perfect....Quote:
The US is hated by almost every nation on our planet, because of Bush.
As to growing up.... C'mon, we're both big boys here... If you can't deal with criticism and dissent then don't make silly statements.... fair?
[/Edit]
Tiger I have always considered you a friend, friends do throw names and such at one another all of the time. I am not going to let your ranting bother me. I am better than that. As for being a Bush supporter I am sorry you feel that way. I am not, nor will I ever be, a supporter of any Bush. As for the hatred of other countries towards the US, if it wasn't Bush who caused most of it then who was it?
Sorry Negative for hijacking this thread, I will try to get back on subject.
W00t!!! Kerry wins!!! :D
AE:
Friends can argue.... I argue like hell with some of my best friends.... Doesn't mean they aren't my friends.... Just means we don't agree.... OK...
Yes, I do think Bush is "righter" than the potential replacement... I don't agree with all the right wing stuff.... But I will always stand _utterly_ with a strong defense, a strong offense and believe that those who would appease should get out of the way..... before they get us all trampled by the enemy....
My opinion... Yours is yours.... Doesn't mean we can't get along..... ;)
I've never met George Bush...I do despise him, though. Not as a person maybe, but I think a lot of things his term has done have done nothing but hurt the US. So I can say...I love America, I hate George Bush, and you can't tell me I'm wrong. Little kids sometimes have more intuition than 'dults give them credit for and their understanding is simple and sweet.
I live in Mexico now, people don't like him here, I can say that as a fact, or atleast say that the relatively small sampling of people I come in contact with in one of the northern states of Mexico don't like him. My sister lives in Uden, people don't like him there, according to her. I'm from PA, most of my friends there don't like him, either.
Defense is always key...offense is another matter. This may be going off on another tangent, but, the US never defined it's enemy! From the abstract ideal of terrorism to a CIA trained camel jockey to a devistated third world country? Please allow me to get out of the way!Quote:
But I will always stand _utterly_ with a strong defense, a strong offense and believe that those who would appease should get out of the way
I can see your points Tiger, coming from GB, but this is America...we've been lucky enough to avoid direct involvement in any kind of 'outside' terrorism, barring our own screwed up problems. We've, once again become involved in another country's affairs that we have no buisness being a part of. You could argue my points, but America's founding forefathers agree with me. Maybe it's isolationism, but in the words of Jefferson, "peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none.". Looks like we've been entangled again, and this one is more of a drain than any of the previous entanglements we've been enganged in.
As far as the whole, "I've seen it first hand" thing, I say HAH!! Neg, imo, is entirely correct, we may be given facts by the media in our country, but our media puts a spin on it that makes our decisions the right ones, even when we're totally in the wrong. Foreign media may only be going off of the facts that the US releases....but atleast they have people willing to get on the tube and say what could really be happening and thinking about the issue instead of blindly following a 2 minute blurb (btw, PBS is a wonderful source of information...ie "Face The Nation", it should be KERA for you Neg) on CNN.
So the world hates George Bush because he went after 2 enslaving regimes? So be it. I have a very good friend who fought on the Egyptian side of the War with Israel. He doesn't hate America but he sure the hell hates Israel since he had to pick up dead bodies of his brothers (abi meaning)) and put them on a cart when he was a kid. He loves America even though we side with Israel most of the time.
In fact I don't know where you were in Egypt er0k but like America, you have people who love and people who hate different things. In fact on the streets of Paris you will see class struggle that "doesn't exist" with people hating all walks of life that doesn't fit their limited world view, same with London. I too am guilty, I hate men who INTENTIONALY murder children behind masks, but I don't think all Muslims are bad. If I did I would hate the whole Middle East, except Egypt of course. Heck even here you can go down to Georgia or Mississippi and find a white child who hates "Nigger's" and a black child who wants to kill the little "Cracker" down the street. And you can ask these haters why they feel that way and you know what, the all answer with the same thing, over and over. Tiger is right, people are stupid. Actually I prefer misguided and that includes every nation of some reasonable size where it's difficult to mold and control the entire society. America IS the only country full of contempt for itself.
Thankfully the world cannot vote on the U.S. Presedential election.
When you think about it the world has voted many times on many issues, by representation at the United Nations. And what has that brought the world.
12 years of Saddam Hussein ignoring UN sacnctions.
Most of the major countries taking part in the UN receiving kickbacks in oil from Iraq by way of illegal weaponry and military electronic equipment sales.
A war that the U.S. has to primarily finance due to the corrupt UN countries trying to protect financial interests in Iraq.
Foreign news channels that spew hatred towards the U.S. President by falling in line with their government's "opinion" of the U.S. led coalition into Iraq. And this due to their respective Government's greedy and underhanded desire to line their pockets.
We've let the world vote, and typically it results in attempts to discredit the U.S. in some fashion or form. Luckily I am an American that is eligible to vote for our President.
TigerShark >> i was concluding my information from the several countries to where i have been, including England, and man do they hate Bush there. You couldn't go a block without seeing an anti-bush poster of some kind. Same thing with Egypt, Italy, and Greece. Thats all im saying.
The general feeling I get from Brits here is they like Bush, of course that definitely does not measure the general population. Perhaps they feel as I, they may not like everything Bush does, but who ever totally agrees with any one person. Some things he does pisses me off.
Erok: Fair enough and I am somewhat ashamed of many of my countrymen.... But then again many of them are about as English as you are nowadays so I guess I have something of an excuse.....
In the final analysis though, why should you give a flying "you know" about what another country thinks of you unless they are ready to and capable of kicking your ass..... It is each nations job to work in it's own best interest just as it is every human being's job to work in their own best interest on a non-national level. That being said, when you do what is right for yourself or what is right for your nation then what anyone else says is irrelevant.
Can you argue within the nation as to the right and wrong of a national act or acts? Of course, but it simply isn't the business of unrelated nations to have an effect upon the national decision making process.
bludgeon,
This might sound a bit off topic, but go with me here ok?Quote:

Why are you now living in Mexico? Does it have anything to do with a family member, or yourself working for a United States company that has moved some, or all of its manufacturing plants out of our country to Mexico? I live in SW Missouri where one of the largest Zenith manufacturing plants in our country packed up and moved to Mexico leaving this area in an impovereshed state that is still causing problems 10 or so years later. I believe it was the Reagon administration that allowed this to happen with one of their hairbrained ideas to help the big business tricke the money down to us. All it actually did was take away needed jobs and funnel the money into their corporate pockets and keep it from being used here. I will search for some facts and provide that too if anyone wants me too.
<edit> The Zenith move has been closer to 14 or 15 years. Man time sure flys by.</edit>
No, ppl hates him because G. Bush had conquered 2 countries. From an outside view, it looks more as a "empire victory" than as a "free world victory"....Quote:
So the world hates George Bush because he went after 2 enslaving regimes?
Just saying that again, ppl around the world usually dont appreciate that a (HIGH POWER) country attacks other ones without (at least) UN permission. You can see the act as a "freedom fight", but i see as "USA Empire strikes again"....
Thats why USA should be carefull when goes around the world "freeing" ppl.
Other example: USA can get on North Korea and kick that ditador out. But a lot of ppl around the world will think "well, Emperos Bush strikes again". Thats no winner on those actions.
When its necessary to take an action like that, IMHO the only way is with the full support of UN. Doing things by itself just weaks UN (that isnt a strong organisation yet).
Democracy? So lets the NATIONS vote and follow the resolutions.
BTW, from the Iraq ppl point of view (not all, but a lot) they are slaved by USA.
At the same time people hold conferences all around the world all the time talking and crying about human rights violations and religious opression not too mention the treatment of women. Bah. After watching these events for decades I think they are full of hot air. Ms. Clinton has even attented a few. Making themselves feel good that they "hurt" for the mothers and girls in the middle east and else where while they have their genitals destroyed for the pleasure of men who control them. But in my personal opinion it's a shallow feeling. The same hidden contempt they have for those less fortunate in our own country. They ride on sorrow and oppression, it's their key to power. Without it they have no springboard. One of many views held in my mind.
Roadclosed
There are two things that should be kept seperate (besides Church and State). They are that the people who organise such events are in many cases people who believe they may do some good while the high profile people who attend belive that the event may do them some good. The main problem is people in general care more about who supports an event rather than the event itself.
Back on topic I will be very glad when the americain presidential slander campaigne is over. It is after getting to the stage where it is no longer funny anymore and waht is worst half it is so bad it wouldnt even make the sun (English tabloid). Normally the presidential campaignes are fairly civilised and intelligent.
I would also disagree about the world hating americains . I for one like americains and I love one very special americain, but I dislike what Bush seems to stand for.
i agree MURACU it will be such a relief when these elections are over. i only hope with the amount of mud thrown from both sides that laws arn't passed that limit our free speech. maybe just the speech of those running for office.
it's been absolutly disgusting
To bastardize a french phrase...
OHH La La. :DQuote:
I love one very special americain,
Yeah well no ones perfect . Only joking.
It makes for a nice mix though an Irish guy, an Americain lady and Paris. ::biggrink
Anyway back on topic what about this kerry/bush thing?
If the world could vote? I vote for Arnold to be supreme leader of the EU.
