srry y'all
You deleted netstat (I'm assuming you use Windows, just because I can, and you don't seem like a Linux user... for certian reasons.) and Windows didn't bitch? Did you try putting your Windows CD back in, and reinstalling that part of Windows? I'm not sure what specific package or Windows Component it come with, but it's probably on your CD somewheres anyways, just copy and paste.
As for Linux, if you use it, again, you can find it on the internet, I'm not sure what package it is, probably net-tools or whatever it is called.
PS. For the record you can help him in general with general OS' until he learns to be specific.

umm is there anyware i can dl it?
I dont see it on the disc's? plz any1
its on the windows disc you used to install...i know on win98 its in a CAB file somewhere...i think cab 26....not sure on winxp
in windows do the following to see if your systems sees its gone
start>>run>>sfc
then do a custom scan that cans for exe's too...id be more speific but im going from memory only i dont have a working win comp at the moment
Pop in your Windows CD and check the i383 folder, or do a search on the CD for it. Or you can reinstall or recover Windows XP. How the hell did you delete netstats?
microburn

put it in your system32 folder !
Scan it first of course ! It may be a virus (it's not) but you can never be sure online !
damm it doesnt any 98 users? thanks every one!
i got one but it says its linked to a missing export
I still have one. It should be in a cab on you 98 cd but here you go, I got this off my 98 SE box.
You wouldn't have this problem if you just kept up with technology
thank you!!!
thanks soooooo much i may have been able to find it and to be honest i dint look that hard but
thanks soooo much sorry for my noobness
I can thing of quite a few reasons to have a 98 box around. Maybe the guy can't afford XP, maybe his box is too old, or he wants to run some old dos/windows games that don't quite work in XP. Or maybe a combination of the above.Quote:

And here i am extracting zip and rar files looking for it ! Well, problem solved !
it keeps disapering i got a ocx file in system32 could that be whats doing it?
It probably keeps dissapearing because you open the exe file directly ? Try through ms-dos ! and don't touch the .ocx, .dll, .inf, or.sys files. they run your computer !
Something keeps deleting it? Maybe you have some malware that deletes it to escape detection. Try Fport ( http://www.foundstone.com ) or Netport (google for it).
its back know but i thought it was just gone the program in there is called chemlonbutton.ocx
but spelled right :\
Does netstat work now?
Good suggestion irongeek...
Fport is a command prompt utility, follow the instructions and run the program and type "fport /ap". IMO that command helps me best. Copy and paste the log here and we'll take a look at it.
it doesnt run unless the system32 file is open
ohh that thing you said to do doesnt work
Fport doesnt work on Win98. Confirm.
Is it just netstat that doesn't work? or is it other network commands through dos as well?
how about ping, tracert , and ip config. Do they function or do they have the same problem.
Are you useing netstat from the command prompt..ooops DOS Window?
OR are you using it from the RUN command? and why was it on your desktop? You would have been able to see where it was just by looking at your Desktop..
so is the file still on your machine.. or is it that you can't get it to work..Quote:
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>netstat -n
Bad command or file name
Cheers
Undies
from a DOS shell?
It could be your PATH environment variable is not picking up the location of netstat, or that you've saved it in the wrong place?Quote:

A step by step break down of what you were doing, just before this problem occurred, would help us give you better advice.
Try this:
Go START>RUN and type command and press <ENTER>
In the DOS shell window that opens type netstat -a then press <ENTER>
Then type path then press <ENTER>
Take a screen capture of the DOS shell window Press and hold <ALT> and then press <SCRN PRT> and then release both keys.
Paste this into Paint or something
save the file as a jpeg
re-post in this thread and attach the image file.
let us know, exactly where you saved the netstat file you extracted from Irongeek's zip file. You did unzip it didn't you?
I apologise in advance if I've been patronising - that was not my intention. I'm trying to help you, to help us, to help you resolve the problem.

I'm not sure what you mean, does it not work unless your present working directory is system32? In that case your path is ****ed up. Use the path command at the command line and tell us what is says.
IIRC netstat.exe resides in c:\windows\command on Win9x. On NT4/2K/XP it's in c:\windows\system32.
I pulled mine from c:\windows\ on my 98 SE box.
thanks fo all yo help i just restored my comp it is working now thanks all!
Could've done that in the first place and save us the time ! :p
yeh copyright he could have but at least now he and many others now how to rectify this problem in the future :)
