I have a feeling i am being Cyberstalked but as I am new to this I'm unsure where to look and what to do.
Anyone help?

Care to elaborate? Why do you have that feeling?
everytime i log on they there, tried using another identitiy but always seems they know its me...like i said im beginner freaking me out a little
What is giving you this feeling of cyberstalking?
Depending on how "interested" the party is, you may or may not really be able to detect someone "stalking" you. One way would be to check for trojans or keyloggers on your system (I'm assuming you are on a Windows machine). Tools like AntiVirus (e.g., Nortons, McAfee, etc.) and TheCleaner can be helpful at detecting these. You can also use http://housecall.trendmicro.com as a free online Anti-virus scanner to detect any malicious activity.
Additionally, limit who you talk to online and ensure that you're activity is random (that is, don't go on and chat every night exactly at 6:00 pm). Vary your schedule. More likely to catch the activity.
Lastly, if you do suspect someone "stalking" you keep in mind that some states have laws against this and you should consider at some point going to the police, particularly if you do get some evidence that supports this. Bringing it up with your ISP also will help as they might be able to put in some "blocks" to prevent further activities of the "stalker".
Log on to what?
Usually the net. I am always contacted via my e-mail i now have a lot of accounts. It started when I went onto Messenger have not been on since
So what you're saying is anytime you connect to the Internet, you receive an e-mail from this person?
Give us all the details you can.
I a little 'green' when it comes to computers, I used somebody to 'fix' my pc when I had problems. Since then I have found that everytime I go on line I receive an e mail from them even though i have not given them my e mail address. They did put on my pc Messenger 6.2 have used this to chat to friends. I am a totall novice and a little concered maybe overreating but think not
So lets see if we have this right, the person that is stalking you has had physical access to you computer, is that right. If that's the case I suspect either a keylogger or some kind of backdoor/remote control program. Do you have any protection systems installed (antivirus, firewall, etc)
Cheers:
Hmm if somebody helped you 'fix' the computer... chances are there's a trojan that sends an ICQ message or conenct to an IRC room whenever you connect to the Internet [either dial-up or computer reboots or whatnot]. There are, indeed, a number of things you could do to check for these things, and by far the easiest would be the HouseCall online virus scanner.
What kind of content do these particular e-mails you're receiving usually have?
I have a firewall and antivirus installed..hypronix where can i get HouseCall online virus scanner??
need spoon feeding here
DjM yes they have had contact with my pc
If they have had contact with your computer, I wouldn't trust anything on the system. Is doing a re-format and re-install out of the question?
Cheers:
As they say they are green at the IT part of life.
I suggest you take the little beige box to a PC repair shop, a large national chain for best anonymity [sp] for a complete fresh install.
Tell them you want it stripped bare, re-partitioned and THEN the OS re-installing.
If cost is an issue, then at the very least you have to implement SOME of what has been advised here.
IS there someone else [trustworthy] who is PC savvy, that could do the work for you ?
Are you THAT green that you cannot read up on advice HERE on AO, and DIY one weekend ?
[edit] trend micro = http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Funny that no one asked... but did you ever think that maybe its just someone you contact from time to time VIA: the web on occasions who is just fooling around?
Has anyone thought maybe this person is playing just a little too noobish?

That's not the tree hitting your window at night... It's my Butcher knife.
lol .. way to treat the scared and innocent gore haha lol :)
Ummm... People.... If the person has had physical access. Any firewall/AV/whatever has been autmatically rendered untrustworthy.
Fdisk, format, reinstallation of OS, and immediate (offline) AV and firewall installation is the only safe solution.
Hell, I'll talk ya through it if ya need. I have never trusted the large chain service places. (Former Best Buy employee.)
Definitely change your email addresses if possible, and all of your passwords.
I've done way worse.
About two years ago when I was learning how to use the Internet, I already had my love of horror movies, and a joy from scaring the **** out of people, and a girl on IRC was in this room by herself when I came on, so I went in, and decided to have some fun and kill boredom for an hour.
I did a whois on her name, and it popped up her State, City, and the School she was sitting in. This was 1 AM, and I was bored and wondering why a girl would be at school at 1 AM (Remember this was 2 years ago back when I knew nothing about colleges and most other things heh) so anyway I said :
"So, you live in Iowa huh?"
Her : *Flipping out* How do you know where I live?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
gore: Oh, like how I know you're in *Can't remember exact city, but I told her which one she was in*
Her : WHAT THE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
gore : How are things inside the *Name of college she was sitting in*
Her : *totally freaking out* HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW I'M IN THAT BUILDING?!?!!?!??!?! NO ONE IS HERE BUT ME!!!!!
gore : Because. Do you hear that tapping sound by the window? (Watching the Weather channel showed me that Iowa was having a very windy day in her town, so I made a random guess) That's not the wind. It's me, the laptop I'm on, and the butcher knife I'm hitting on the window.. You're not as alone as you think.
Her : *User has quit*
Heh, I imagine security gave her a ride home.
You dick.
That sounds fun.... ;)
Kitten when you log into the internet does msn messenger log in automaticaly. If it does it will be possible for anyone who has your msn or hotmail account details to see that you are on line. To prevent this happening open messenger click tools and under the general tab uncheck allow automatic sign in when i connect to the net. Then when you are connected there are settings that you can make to allow you to be visible to only those people you want to see you are on line.
If the above is not relevent to your problem then the advice given by other members should apply.
hm before all of this.. WHAT IS THE CONTENT OF THE EMAILS..!?! could just be ur firewall or av log options as many deliver logs to your email.. what exactly is the content..
do a netstat -a in run and copy paste what shows up here..
I think if her AV/firewall were sending logs to her email it wouldnt set off bells in her head that she were being stalked....unless they know she has a fear of dropped packets, Think before you say something.... she should just wipe her harddisks and reinstall like she's been told a couple of times.
Wiping and re-installing isn't always a viable answer, IMHO. In addition, it's a good idea to find out fully the how to prevent it from further happening. There is something that is confusing however:

My question is when did it really start? If people are going to be able to help you there are some things that you need to consider when posting:Quote:

- 1. Be detailed. It doesn't mean you need to be a computer expert. The more details that are provided the more that people can help. Details include what programs might "trigger" the emails, what programs you run when you are online, what is your home network setup, and anything else that could help.
2. Record incidents as they happen and backup suspected emails. Print them out if need be.
3. As has been suggested, get your machine virus scanned (whether by an online option like Housecall or a purchased version like Norton's/MacAfee), get it checked for Spyware activity (a tool like Ad-Aware from Http://www.lavasoft.com can help with this) and to be thorough, get a trojan detection tool like TheCleaner from Moosoft (most trojans/keyloggers will be detected).
4. Once it's determined how the "stalker" is detecting when you are on and emailing you remove that how. Only then should you change your password.
One last potential "weak" area may be your router. I've heard of this happening elsewhere but basically the "stalker" has the username/password to the router that the home user had setup for their home network. This may or may not be relative to your situation.
Just some advice to back up what has already been said..........
Reformat and re-install, it is the only safe solution.
I would go to a trustworthy source and get them to physically have a look at what is attached and included in your computer.
Very rude question, but are you involved in divorce proceedings or alimony litigation at the moment?
Yes, that is relevant ;)
OK, before we go bringing all of the village's sheep to sacrifice to the re-format gods, maybe we should take a step back...
Kitten, I suggest disconnecting your computer from the internet, turning it off, unplugging it, and going to the local law enforcement. If they attempt any kind of investigation, it would be crucial to have your computer in the state it was in while you were being "watched."
Wiping the drive would kind of be counter-productive, as I'm sure your more concerned with your immediate safety, rather than the security of your computer at this point in time.
Anyway, call the police to have one of their's or a state's computer expert look at it for you. Again, I don't know where you're located, but many states have updated their stalking laws to include computers/interenet. See Massachusetts c. 265 S. 43a
Good luck ;)
Thanks for all the advice have now sorted it.
A how you did it would be good, otherwise there is no point to this thread.Quote:
hanks for all the advice have now sorted it.
Sorry should have said i have reformatted and re-installed this seems to have worked. Any further problems I will let you know.
if you gave physical access to that person they could have installed a "back door" or a program like dameware to spy on your pc... my advice to you would be to get adaware or spybot SD first and if that doesnt cure it you might need to talk to someone with some authority...
Um, Tex...You're a little late buddy...
[foxy] Hey Tex, why do they call you Tex, when you're not from Texas ?
[Tex] Because I'm from Florida, and don't like being called Flo ........... :D
Sorry, It just gets me sometimes.
need a :drink: REAL bad
And to kittenwithabite:
Next time you have a problem, please do the decent thing:
Inform your listeners what you have done WHEN you have done it ......
Thank you.
I know it is all said and done, but anyone ever think about doing a netstat command, and seeing if it is IRC (port 6667)? I know this person probably has NO clue about DOS... just a thought...
Shugart
speaking of cybersalking.. any of u guys heard about the latest Trojan that is aimed to take over your mic and web cam?
http://www.xatrix.org/article.php?s=3665
Thought there were trojans that've let you do that for ages...aka SubSeven I seem to remember
Lol,only Windows eh?Sorry,seemed funny..seeing that half the n00b world's on it...Quote:
After all of this has been said, here are some good news: Rbot-Gr Trojan is applicable only on machines using Windows, and hasn’t spread widely yet, so leading antiviral experts have received only a few reports from people whose computers were infected.
Is the only 'symptom' of the stalking the one e-mail you recieve when you log into messenger? Is it the same message everytime? Is it threatening? Or is it freaking you out simply 'cuz they HAVE your email address?
..............didnt you say this person installed messenger for you?? Didnt you give him/her your ID then? ..........(i say ReVeRSe-STaLK 'em and find out whats realy going on!!)
P.S. Look right -------------- X --------- here and - ***Say cheese! ***
