Now I'm not an omnipotent uber-geek (yet) or anything...but I've been around the block a time or two, and SECURE Labs doesn't sound familiar to me...anyone else know of them? A cursory google didn't return anything that was obviously relevant. And, the thread starter is using a Hotmail email address.
I bet a few members might be interested in *considering* participating, but only after we've seen some evidence that this isn't a troll for resumes/personal information/email addresses/etc.
Do you have a website? Would any other organizations recommend you? I'm not decrying "WOLF!"...yet. Give us a reason to not just ignore this out of hand.

Hrmm, being that I love looking into things like this, lets break this down..
- You signed up with your "secure-labs" name.. not your name. Okay.
- Your e-mail isn't [email protected] or [email protected], instead it's a free signup hotmail address.
- A google search will show/prove that you do not have a legitimate website. Or atleast a domain.
With those conclusive pieces alone, it sounds like a scam or something of that sort. So please, no offense -- try it on a dumber group of people. Maybe neopets.com? :D
Ok, let's break this down. We started with me and two other guys two years ago. We had about $50 bucks between us when we started. We got the Hotmail address at the beginning because ta da!! it's FREE!! Anyway, we've grown into a small consulting firm and we are about to launch a website and several learning tools for people of varying levels of computer savvy.
Now, don't bother me with simple talk. Either you wish to help and get your name on the product or not.
PS: Don't slam me and me org for doing what you have only thought about in some fleeting moment. Now if you have any comments that are not rude please reply. If you have an actual question I will answer them , but I will not respond to rude banter nor will I respond to hooks.
We see requests like this a lot, and it's flattering I guess, but members have had their tut's and articles ripped off before. You come here with no background or credibility, so I doubt you will get much of a response.Quote:

Sure... question right here. Can you provide me with ANY actual evidence that your company exisits? A state database record (all states have them), a license of some sort, whatever.. evidence that Secure Labs is an actual, non-fictional company....

I didn't post this to get ripped apart by the "Microsoft is after my brain" fanatics. I simply posted a request for help improving a new product.

With the exception of Soda_Popinsky and jm459 you have all accused me of trying to get from you what you are requesting of me. So you have defeated you own purpose. sad really. When our new product goes public in January '06 I'll be sure to post a link.
I would like to say that this was very disappointing and not at all what i expected. I thought we read and posted to forums such as this to help ourselves and others. This is like the old IRC chats with all the wanna be's.

I wasn't going to interject, as Soda was handling the situation rather well. But I'm afraid your last post needs to be looked at.
The reason you have been met with mild hostility and paranoia is because you want to use online tutorials for classrooms, something that ties directly in with Federal funding and the such. This is why people want proof and answers before even considering it. Releasing indepth guides on how to learn security by circumventing it straight into the heads of the Federal government is not something a security admin tends to enjoy. Not because they have anything to hide, but because it's just "one of those things" that could complicate matters or fall back on us in a way we never intended.
So, please do not take what they are saying as a personal attack against you. They are merely defending themselves and their work in an unknown situation that they do not have enough information about.
Their attitude towards uncertain situations and wanting to know specific details before going into things could be a section of the lessons you plan to teach.

I would ask if you could clarify what exactly it is that you're looking for (types of articles and such) and the intended audience (managers, techies, students, etc.). The kind of information that I give to my CISSP students is vastly different than how I teach my college students (different experiences require different levels). I know you said varying but how "varying" is it? Also, are these networking types, programmers, security, gamers, health, legal, etc.? I'm certainly interested but I need to understand where your audience is at before I can say whether I'd be beneficial or able to offer anything of value. Oh.. and I'm curious as to compensation and such.
Certainly, since you are a start-up, it does make me nervous (you could be a scam job for all I know or a pyramid scheme) but I am keeping an open mind.
Again, take time to read and understand. The "classroom" is merely a function of our new security software. It's an area where users can learn more about what our software does and things they can do to prevent attacks and the like without having to sift through thousands of bogus links on search engines.
The only funding we have is from three very non-government sources.

Why would you? Because if you want me to send you a resume with my name and other personal details to you, I'd atleast like to know who I'm sending them to. Your crappy hotmail e-mail - which no respectable company would use - and your lack of information raises flags and people are going to question you.
Help other and ourselves? Hmm.. all you posted was you wanted security papers... you've yet to post any type of question nor any type of hint of what you want other than people to send their resumes to a random hotmail e-mail address.

I think we all need more clarification, as what you are trying to accomplish is completely understood. But not how.
What type of software? What type of documentation? What will the software be programmed in? What will the license be on the software? What rights will the people who make the walk-throughts have on their documentation? Where is your company located? How could we contact you personally rather than through a forum, to speed up the communication process? Has anyone else joined? Could we contact them to gater their opinions?
Keep in mind that any smart security operative is going to ask a lot of questions, and you have to be ready to give them. It may not even be so much as a "Defence" move on their part, but merely "I need to know __this__". Just like purchasing a car, you won't run in and immediatally take the dealer's word on the car itself. You would research about the car's general capability and faults. Then most likley ask around and see how trustworthy the dealership is.

I actually do know that. I also know it depends on the AUP that the site puts up. I know of a few (very few!) that take a more open policy to this. Please realize that there are others that are seriously interested but as I said, take things cautiously. In a forum of over 60,000 members and some who have questionable "motives" it's hard to know who to trust. Trust is something earned and that requires patience, for both parties.Quote:

Walk-throughs of..?? What specifically, or are there some examples you can give (e.g., creating firewall rulesets, how to prevent buffer overflow and programming errors, how to configurat a CISCO router to piss off employees [ok.. I made that last one up for a giggle :D]). I think part of what's making this hard is that you already have an envisionment of what the software tool is for and who's it's targetted to. And while I realize you don't want to give all that away (confidentiality, NDA, etc.), it makes it hard for the rest of us to envision what it is you want or what you are looking for.Quote:

All I'm asking for is some guidelines as to what specifically you are looking for (I know you want articles but a little direction or narrowing of the concept down would be helpful as it's a rather broad request).

That doesn't prove anything. All it does is suggest that he is coherent in his writing style and has probably a college/university education. He also has some grammatical knowledge. Heck, for all I know it could be my uncle (I know it isn't or at least that it's unlikely). sec_labs style of writing is similar to about 50-100 people I know online from a variety of communities. But my problem here is that your firm has internet access? so you will have a regular payment to a ISP.. now many (that I know of) ISPs provide atleast 1 FREE email account with their Access Plan (or what ever it is called in your area of the world).. so surly your firm is large enough to be able to spring for an ISP account.. My thought is AFTER you submit your Resumë, and an offical business plan, and a physical address for your firm and its partners/directors, also business registration information. and A tax office/IRS registration or proof of business activity from said department.

One of the first things I learned about security of any kind is never trust a stranger. We dont know you from adam. And you want to come in here all high handed like you are a senior member with 1000 posts under your belt and act like a snob. All we are basicaly asking for are some credentials of some sort. If I was pulled over and asked the cop to see his badge number he would gladly show it to me. If a saleman walked into my office and I asked for his buisness card he would gladly give it to me. We ask you for basicaly the same thing and you give us a free email account that anybody can sign up for under any name ( I have a hotmail adress saying my name is Richard Cheese) and an attitude.

No MsMittens I have not been ignoring you. I was angry at myself for thinking this was a good idea. I've gotten several private messages from interested people. I have added you to my list of people to notify. It's my fault in essence. I should have been prepared to offer more information on what I needed. I intend to compile such a list during our meeting monday. My partners have expressed their displeasure with me and my "lone wolf" actions. I don't know if I can sell them on this idea if they see these posts and they will.
I should have stuff with graphics. I was much better when i didn't have to interact with humans.
