Hackers is by far the worst movie.
Look its a virus. But it looks like pacman in the file manager.
Wtf is up with these threads, what best this whats worst that, whats yor favorite blah....who cares....
Ok... so hackers was not the most accurate movie. Anyone remember Jurassic Park... This is Unix?
I liked hackers.
It's general chit-chat, designed for posts that nobody cares about. Remember the non sensical thread now...Quote:

As for the worst hacker movies, there are others on the list that rank as a really bad hacker/computer movie:
1. The Matrix (all three) for some reason, this movie is a favorite among geeks. I am geek, but never liked the movies. I sit through 1/2 hour and watch something else instead.
2. I never seen Hackers. I heard a lot of bad press about it.
3. Swordfish - Has a lot of action and a wet dream of the person who sits on IRC all day long hoping his quest for "rewt" and cracking programs will get him a chick like Halle Berry. In reality, most resort to pr0n from newsgroups and enpornium. Of course, we all want to be so good we are able to crack a password while somebody gives you head, but was the password MD5'd? I kinda doubt it. Some dude made a flash movie and made it look real. heh.
4. Assasins- There was an interesting look at an Apple laptop where the lead character uses some strange IM program to talk about his contracts. I was worried the chat program was not over SSH or something. Now with Homeland Security, that would not work anymore.
and the list goes on and on. The bottom line is, any movie based on a real hacker/cracker would be boring because the movie will be something like this:
"Script Kiddies: The Real Deal"
scene 1: Some kid is waking up, checks e-mail, fires his port scanner up and opens IRC to #kiddies. While he is waiting for hosts, he takes a **** and gets some cereal. A real breakfast will take time away from IRC. He scarfs his breakfast down and scans hosts for 2 hours. In that two hours, you see him do everything from chatting and whacking off to NNTP porn.
scene 2: w00t! He finds serveral vulnerable hosts. After getting root on some servers, he changes some front pages to "I 0wn you" and whacks off to it. Cracking gets him excited.
scene 3: He is so bored. Takes another **** and eats a snack. Scans some more and looks for warez on bittorrent.
ahh forget it. I am getting bored already.
d) all of the above?
well, as you all know movies are made for entertainment, not for their realism. personally i like all 3 movies.
if you want a real hacker movie, then you should watch a documentary, but every movie that is created in hollywood is blown out of propertions to entertain the bigger audience.
what would be nice about a movie about hackers if all you would see is some text on a screen , technical terms and a lot of research?? i think most people would not want to see it, so the moviemaker doesn't make money, so the moviemaker doesn't make the movie....
regardless of if you are interested in real hacking, i doubt you would like to see a movie like that...
i personally prefer a good action / comedy with Eddie Murphy or Jackie Chan, but movies like LOTR, Harry Potter and so many others are also nice to watch ;)
just my 2 dollar :D
Yeah its GCC, but lately these "WHats your favorite" threads are coming like crazy.
Personally i only liked Swordfish(action) and Antitrust ! (Rachel Leigh Cook ? come on now;))
I liked Jurassic Park but that wasn't the only thing wrong with it..it got some flak for placing Cretaceous Period dinosaurs in the Jurassic period...apparently they chose the name Jurassic only because it sounded cooler.Quote:

I liked Hackers too...but mostly because of Angelina Jolie. :D
You forgot the one that started it all...the one with whats-his-name( from the movie Glory) who sets the missiles flying...and let's not forget the kid in Mercury Rising with Bruce Willis.
Wasnt Wargames the first hacker movie?Quote:

Aye, WarGames was. One of my old favorites.
Yeh !...That's the one with what's-his-name!! :DQuote:
Hackers was a great movie. People who race cars stilll ike Fast and furious, even though that little ****ing car could never touch the Big Black monster at the end but in the movie it stayed up with it. Doesn't mean we can't like Hackers just because they all used Macs in some strange wonderland where Mainframes are controled by a magician and a guy who calls himself the plague.Quote:

Jurassic Park:
That WAS Unix winston, SGI I believe released that. It does exist and it's free too download and use.
Swordfish was the ****! Those cops got blown up and the car did a back flip!
Wargames was not the first Hacker movie ;) Lots of movies have Social Engineering in them. Joshua..... Like you make that a backdoor on a machine for gov use.
Gore.... you're telling me that GUI exists?
From SGI?
I would not think that any movie about hackers where really meant to be seen and judged by hackers and the likes so it's not so strange that you wouldn't like it from the aspect of hacking per se.. I remember that I barely could stop laughing when I saw the graphic stunts they pulled of for hacking in Hackers but that doesn't make it a bad movie.
I'm fairly sure it is SGI. Someone brought it up last time we talked about this.
Hmmm.... Thanks for the info... This demands some investigation. Off to google I suppose.
It was within the last year when this was being discussed and someone brought up the tool does in fact exist.... Damn nwo you got me wondering what it is too. It's on the web site though and you can download it free, and if it is SGI I'm supposing Irix is what it was made for.
If you find it make sure to reply so others can see. And I can quit wondering. I'm going to search AO and see if I can grep it.
well, I know they are all unrealistic, and I guess I did forget a couple. I was just askin which one was the corniest representation. Some <i>are</i> fun movies, but they are still pretty retarded. Remember in hakers, they put on the virtual reality helmet and fly around the internet or whatever ? C'mon. That was retarded. It was dumb, but, yeah, I guess some of them are fun movies to watch.
I thought Dade used something for dual screens. That was what he had on his head.
Oh!!!..I forgot to add this piece of great...ahem...cinematic...cough...blockbusters...errrr...ahem...Lawnmowerman 1 & 2 !!! :D
gore...even though I agree with all your other points, Wargames is considered by the movie industry to be the first movie made to be about hacking...there are lots of other movies and t.v. shows with hacking in them ( the original star trek series comes to mind, alot of ancient sci-fi movies, etc...) but hacking was not the focus of the show. :)
I really liked hackers but all 3 were quite OK.
And what about Antitrust
Wargames rocked... I love that movie...
The best part of swordfish was the scene where Halle Berry did that one thing with her shirt... I think she lost it or something ;)
True hackers at work
Takedown.

im not a nerd!

Worst Hacker movie? Uhhh... that one with your dad, laying naked next to another man.
Thats the main character in War Games. I dont think its Dave.Quote:
Nah its not me its a photoshoped still image from the movie wargaes with the google **** superimposed on the screen
Jeez specialist. Don't think too hard about that witty remark. I've never heard someone say something stupid like that before. I mean, don't get me wrong. Your mom/dad jokes really are grown up. So are gay jokes. Keep the wisdom flowing. Don't be confused by maturity.
Hey DMorgan,
Look up one post.
See the little date going flashey-flashey?
This post is old dude! Kinda late for starting a flamewar with Spec - he'll just call you a newbie and all... oops.
Yes and what is this I hear about not thinking to hard about witty remarks? Try not to strain yourself, pal.
I like operation takedown but you know I cant find it anywhere on dvd for sale
That's because it was hardly released and oout of print. I have it if you really want it. And to find out why it was not released well, watch "Freedom Downtime".
