What are you trying to accomplish?
Start --> Run --> type cmd
Is that what you're looking for?
No i don't have user access. Trying to see how someone locked me out through the dos.
They didn't lock you out through dos.
Sounds like you're trying to break into some W2K box.
No offense intended but if i wanted to break through my own box i'd just use my password recovery disks, erd commander, or various other crack cds i have. Or i'd just grab the sam and break it with cain.
My simple question here is, howed he get through my box without using any of those tools. He only mentioned "manipulating the user accounts through(net user). Ok let me re phrase the question "How would you boot into dos with local admin rights with win 2000pro?" Because that's apparently what he did.
Sounds more like he did a red button attack. (null connections)
You mean ip$ null null? Something like that?
Possibly. It's a guess, assuming he's being straightforward with you. He might also be using one of the Kaht (Kaht II) exploits (those seem rather popular with my students these days although I don't know if I'd consider it the same as a net use exploit/flaw)
He also has physical access to my computer, i've tried booting into dos and it never worked for me, how many ways are there to boot into it without a boot disk anyways??? I've tried googling, didn't really help. Thanks msmittens for the informative replies.
If he had physical access it's very possible he used something like a knoppix disk or NT Offline Password.
As far as i know, no knoppix disks were used, or any boot disks at all.
Perhaps this: http://www.jms1.net/nt-unlock.html ?
Hitting "ENTER" when asked for the password? Seriously, there's no way to get into the system without knowing a password for an account with admin privs this way. Does he have his own account? Do you have an account? Are all accounts password protected? Are the passwords easily guessible?Quote:

I think that you are getting a little confused here? strictly speaking Windows 2000 does not have a "DOS" mode. If you hit F8 during start up you can go into "safe mode with command prompt"
If your security is set up right it should then prompt you for a user ID and a password. You can then run the cmd.exe program.
I think that SirDice and MsM may have the answer, or even yourself when you mentioned password recovery disks.
