Any Idea???

Does anyone know how to increase the pixel size of a snap/picture i.e, if i have a picture of size 352*500 and i want to increase its size to 800*600 or more without damaging its clarity, is it possible?

You can increase the size, but the clarity will dimish. Zoomed in to the same screen size it iwll look the same, but when expanded it will lose clarity. There are only 352x500 pixels for it to work it. It cannot know what the rest of the pixels are supposed to be, so it guesses based on the surrounding pixels. These pixels are interpollated.

This doesn't belong in this forum, and it's very difficult to enlarge a picture without losing clarity. The most you can usually go is 150%.
If it's a logo, or something simple, use vectors.

There is a lot of photo editing programs available to do that but like all suggested..the quality will definitely suffer at the end of the day so my suggestion would be to decide upon the desired resolution before hand.

Well, a lot depends on the original size and the compression codec.

I have messed with my budget digital camera, and if I take a high res picture of about 1.5Mb and compress it to a .jpg then expand it back to a .bmp, it does not noticeably lose quality.

Mind you this is a budget camera (2.1megapixels) so the quality is pretty average to begin with. However if your picture size is its uncompressed original size you cannot enlarge it without quality loss as already explained.

By zooming the of the picture will definitely diminish,Well this a known thing.But as VANMAN said photo editing softwares might be of some use and when used if the clarity reduces by 5% or 10% that doesnt matter.

Can anyone tell me any user friendly photo editing softwares by which this might be possible? so that clarity is restored by atleast 75% or 80%.

I'm not speaking of any particular format.But since JP*G, TIFF,BMP are widely used formats, lets consider these most oftenly used formats.

Adobe Illustrator CS2 has a 'Live Trace' option which will convert any image into vector graphics. You can then resize it. Check it out. The Flash animation on this page shows a demonstration:

Okay so basically, your clarity suffers. But what if I wanna reduce the picture size? So tht it occupies less disk space.. Currently, I print-screen pictures that are large in size and then paste it in paint. save it as a jpeg. that seems to do the trick. But is there any more established way to do this???
