Hurricane Dennis

Just as people in Florida were getting back up after last years hurricanes, now Florida is going to be blasted by what is already a Category 4 hurricane. It's less than 10 miles away from being a Category 5 hurricane which is the highest category a hurricane can be. I'm bracing for Dennis, my family and I have been buying some supplies and are prepared to possibly lose power. My friend let me borrow one of his power generators and this one can power my house for 10 hours straight until a refill of gas is needed.

Blah, but overall I'm pretty worried. This hurricane seems like it can do damage and it's already raining ALOT where I am and the hurricane hasn't hit yet. :( Anyways, is anyone else bracing for the hurricane? What are you guys doing to prepare for it (those in the area)? What do you think about Dennis and it's possible impact, etc?

I can't wait until I get a hurricane named after me.

Maybe I should have started a new thread, but why oh why do people insist on having www on their profile, pointing to yahoo , google, AO, etc, or worse still 404's. WTF is the point. Could someone please explain. I am down in south florida (fort Lauderdale) and we are keeping a close eye on this bastard. For those most part it looks like we will be spared. Right now out sode the winds are picking up and gusting to about 30 mph. A category 4 hurricane is not to be joked about. They are very very dangerous. Trust me I know because I went thru Hurricane Andrew back in 1992. That was a horrible horrible hurricane and it devistated most of south florida and miami.

Spyder: I wish you the best man. Put up shutters and get yourself and your family to a shelter. IF you take a direct impact from this, it could be really bad to be in your home. Our homes down here are all solid concrete construction, and even then Andrew ripped it apart.

My cousins are in Louisianna right on the coast. They have all boarded up and flown to disney world to try and make some good of this. Most likly they will not have a home to go to when they return. :(

Just prepare, prepare, prepare.

Board her up good and Best of Luck during this Sumbiacthen Dennis. I'm on the Atlantic side, follow the coast up to you see that elbow sticking out into the ocean. We'll get ours this year as well. We're just standing by for Africa to start farting them out. When they do, I'll be putting the metal storm shutters up, checking the generator, getting extra culligan jugs and the like. Take care.

xmaddness: Thanks man. I've had atleast one TV on all day on the Central Florida 13 news and based on it's projected path, it look's like alot of Florida will atleast feel something from this.

debwalin: I'm on the Atlantic coast aswell. We're projected to get some moderate winds, a little heavy rain, and just some of the hurricanes effects. Basically the "outer rims" is what my neighbor was talking to me about.

Yeah, Channel 13 news hasn't had much good news concerning the storm all day. Not to mention the storms been gaining speed, close to being Category 5, and is making a right swerve (notice the path up Cuba). :(

Meh...half the time, they don't know where the hell they're gonna land til they hit anyway, so all you can do is be ready.

I didn't mean anything negative by my last posts. I have friends in Florida as well, and I wish all who live there the best of luck.

Thank you heinous. :) Although depending on where in Florida your friends are, they may need quite a bit more than your well-wishes to come thru this one all right.

The good news is it's weakening a bit. The bad news (for me and Florida) is, they have finally admitted they don't know wtf it's going to do when it gets into the Gulf of Mexico. :rolleyes:

God bless and good luck to you all......................the "good" ones do a neat recurve into the Atlantic and we get them about 4 days later as heavy rain. Whilst that is not so good from a tourist point of view, the root vegetable farmers (potatoes, sugar beet etc.) see it as a godsend at this time of the year.

This one looks like a total "dud" as it will hit your coastline and cause untold damage, and be useless by the time it gets here.

I, too, wish everyone the best of luck. My prayers are with you as well. When you can, make sure you update us on the status of the situation. Don't go to great lengths though.. we're not THAT important :)

Me and mine are fine...windy, rainy, just starting to pick up right now, but things are fine. We're out of the danger zone though, there are others who are really going to have a bad night tonight, and a bad day tomorrow. Pray for them.

Yeah, it didn't affect us that much. Small winds/rain but it slammed into Pensacola from what I've heard.

You can see the bad stuff just to the north of Pensacola. At least it lost some steam before it landed..........went down to level 3 I believe.

I think that flooding is likely to be a big risk right now. When these things degenerate, they dump an awful lot of water.

I'm glad Dennis missed us, we had already bought Tape and food when it was going through Puerto Rico thinking it was gonna come here before the supermarkets got crowded. When I saw the hurricane map that morning that it was under us I was soo happy :P

Where is the recurve?

Europe is pretty starved of rainfall right now, we need these storms..............AFAIK there has only ben one hurricane that reached us with enough "spit" to cause any serious damage, and that was back before the AWI :D

Well Hurricane Emily doesn't LOOK like it's going to hit FL since it's heading south at the moment but it seems like it's gonna hit a good portion of DR (Where I live) :( Don't ruin moving day for me Emily!! :(

I got out-outage over here in Miami. Some high winds, thats about it.
