Does that mean that I am now the devil, having read all five of them? =P
Silly syndicated press.
Get outta here. Take that bullsh*t somewhere else and let people read what they want to read. It's their GOD given right.. *sigh*Quote:
seduce young readers
Just make sure you don't read the sixth one, say 100 Hail Mary's for every one you've read, and go to Santiago de Compostella by foot, and you shall be fine.
Bleh, I'll do all that possibly.. but not read the 6th one I won't! :DQuote:

I've been saying that all along ! :D And that Tooth Fairy is in co-hoots with the Easter Bunny ! And if you spin the Magical Mystery Tour backwards you'll go blind....errrrrr....or somethin' like that :D
Eg ;)
Yeah, and I believe that J. K. Rowling is trying to warp the moral and christian beliefs of our young children. Gimme a break.
I've read and enjoyed all of them. Definitely hasn't affected my core beliefs. 'Course, I ain't Catholic any more (Born Roman Catholic, converted to Mormonism in early teens, got kicked out of that, now just a basic Christian).
Parents should read what their children read. Potter books, Lemony Snicket books, Eragon, whatever. Not only does it give you some common ground, but you can discuss the conflict between good and evil presented in them and reconcile that with your own faith in a reasonable, supportive manner.
It's certainly better than accepting an edict from some religious leader.
Let's see here, getting kids to read is evil says the catholic church.
...I guess touching them is different ? ....
Ass backwards crap
Harry potter is evil...and the DeVinci code sucked.
but the vatican should still shut the hell up about it all.
Ah damn, and i have an order for it too......
I had a feeling i was going to dislike this pope. Can anyone link to the picture with the parental advice sticker for the bible ?
She lives about a half hour from my work (well one of her houses). I'll get a mob and we'll go burn her out. :firedevil

Like the biology books in the USA stating: "This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully and critically considered."
The DaVinci Code = conspiracy theory and pseudo-scholarship = CRAP ....
I wonder what he was smoking when he wrote that ....Quote:
all descriptions of documents and secret rituals are accurate.
Nice links the_JinX
Gotta love the ignorance displayed in those links.. [B.T.W. this comment is not directed towards you JinX but at the links ... ]
I always wonder why is it hard for people to believe in God but yet they can believe in aliens ???

ike the biology books in the USA stating: "This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully and critically considered."
I saw an argument against that particular anti evolution stance that stated that basically they did not understand the meaning of the word 'Theory' in the context of scientific reasearch.
I always find it confusing that these stupid people are actually listened to in the States. Over here they would just be politely told to piss off and stand with the other loonies in the corner (I hope).
How is research suposed to be carried out if some religious ***** sticks his head in every 5 minutes and tell scientists, "great research, but it doesn't agree with the writings of a 2000 year old book so stick it in the garbage".
If they want an argument in favour of God or gods they should go and speak to some physicists. Quite a few are coming to have an opinion that there must be a god because the universe is too complex to have occurred by chance.
Same with that Janet Jackson incident, I couldn't understand the fuss. We have **** on page 3 of lots of newspapers here, they don't stop kids buying them and they're not classed as pr0n. The story about the US outcry was bigger than any story about her tit here.
Must be very frustrating.
Let's see here...
CS Lewis - the lion, the WITCH, and the wardrobe... along with the entire chronicles of narnia series is touted as 'a wonderful collection of children's novels.' Lewis is hailed as a christian author, and sells to the exact audience JK Rowling does.
JK Rowling is touted as anti-christian because she's writing about magic and the practice of it...
What's wrong with this picture?
It's entertainment. Go watch wizard of oz, read narnia, hell - read alice in wonderland and enjoy the opiate-induced dreams the author put to paper...then leave JK alone. She's done right by her audience in keeping them entertained, and done right by herself in bringing herself from being homeless, to quite wealthy, all with the use of her imagination. It's not a christian thing folks, it's a capitalism thing.
As for Pope Benedict, I'll point to his time in the Hitler Youth to show you one of his smaller errors in his history. nuff said.
Da Vinci code? As a Master Mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Shriner, I can say that the code is a most interesting read. There are aspects and details the author took freely from Masonry, to the point that I wonder if he is one, that were most delightful to read in print. Beyond that, it's pure fluff, but entertaining fluff.
Because we've seen Aliens :D ...Micheal jackson, Martha Stewart, Pee-wee Herman, etc...none of these people could possibly be human.Quote:
I always wonder why is it hard for people to believe in God but yet they can believe in aliens ???

eeeuh, wrong place aspman ?
I was following on from Egs aliens theme.
If parents don't want their catholic kids reading Harry, that's too bad for the children, but their choice. I am not a kid but I'll be in line at midnight Friday. Actually just kidding, Amazon better have that here ASAP. I was thinking I may get it Friday afternoon with any luck???
The church is probably getting alot of kids thinking Voldamort is the devil. :D Cause he IS the fecking bastard.... and asking difficult questions of the priest. I can say that all the Catholics I know read it and love it.
I judge a book by the enjoyment factor and therefore The DaVinci code is an excellent book.
Aliens... Scientology
It's hard to imagine that Harry is only about 10 years old and it's made a house mum from the United Kingdon, barely making ends meet, a BILLIONaire. And cast so much enjoyment on the world.
The church is right. It does seduce children. Evil book! :p
Warning SPOILER and possible HOAX

Don't say I didn't warn you !!!!
Harry Potter, J K Rowling novels are FICTION!Quote:
from Dictionary.com: An imaginative creation or a pretense that does not represent actuality but has been invented.
Therefore, stating that are/promote anti-Christian ideas is false. It's not real. Relax America.
Proof again that America is all about stifling human creativity.
I won't disagree, Kthln01, but I'd have to this time..
It's the pope.. A german crosdresser in the Vatican (Italy)..
Yeah.. I know.. funny Europeans..
Or give 10-15% or your yearly earnings and ye shall be forgiven all trespasses.Quote:

Actually the Catholic church is pissed cause they don't get a cut of the profits, you know them they have to have a cut of everything or else it's the DEVIL!!!!!
You know, for how easy it is to rip te Catholic church apart you'd think they'd try and keep a low profile, but oh no, they have to be as loud as hell!! lol
I wish people were like you but a lot of people have read his book and taken it as being FACTUAL ... Which trust me it's far from that .... It's more along the lines of a fairy tell story gone bad ...Quote:

Co-sign, that outta shut them up :DQuote:

Well,
Total intellectual masturbatory bullcrap! if that were true then the person would already be doomed and their religious leaders should be grovelling in appology for failing in the duty they claim their supreme being charged them with.Quote:
"The ability of the reader to distinguish between good and evil is overridden by emotional manipulation and intellectual obfuscation."
It is fiction and is not aimed at an audience of people who might remotely believe in its contents. The language, imagery and concepts are far too complex to be comprehended by young people who might be influenced. Rowlings is a millionairess because ADULTS buy her books, not kiddies out of their paper round or pocket money.
When I was a kid, I did not waste my money on buying books if I could swap them with friends, or borrow them from the library.
Just travel on public transport today and see how many youngsters are reading anything, let alone a book!.................they are all p1$$1ng around with text messages on their mobiles or playing games on their palmtops :D
To go back to the original quote: If that were the case then I should be able to torch three-quarters of the contents of the Vatican Library.
My guess is the guy tripped some bad acid and was actually reading "Maleficus Maleficorum"
Now please excuse me...............................I have the needs of a young succubus to attend to  :p
Yes, the adults buy the books.. for their kids.Quote:

Spyder~ shame on you! :D
Errrrr...............Quote:
Yes, the adults buy the books.. for their kids.
Like the electric locomotive set, the radio controlled model, the latest computer game?
I would not be surprised if 70% of the readers of Harry Potter were 16 or older.................I kid you not..............and the younger ones would be classed as pretty bright at school.
Just what I have observed in a VERY SMALL sample I agree...............but worth a thought..........?
:)
Lets see I was about harry's age in the first book when i read my first book. Now for some reason or another rowling does not produce a book a year im 18 now....
I do believe that this is true for a lot of people.
me, personally, i've never read an hp book
for those who have, are they good? and in what way(adventure, science fiction, etc)
i tend to only read bad "Stephen King-like" books and classics.
thinkin of expanding my reading genre.
Hi MoonWolf
In the UK he was going to secondary school, which would make him 11 or only just 12. That is exactly my point...................if you still believe in goblins and dragons (notwithstanding the Kimodo Dragon) at that age, you won't make it to much in the way of a secondary school, and if you do, reading certainly won't be your forte? I sincerely doubt if you would be at risk. And if you make it to a better school then you are bright enough to know what fiction is, so again you are not at risk?Quote:
Lets see I was about harry's age in the first book when i read my first book
Also, by then a Catholic child will have received their first communion and have been confirmed so they should not be susceptible to subversion if the "teachers" have done their job properly.......which was my first objection to this nonsense?
Now, if I were to give you a book by Alastair Crowley  .................you would toss it to one side in a few minutes..................way to complex and convoluted.............but he was a real satanist.
Someone mentioned The Chronicles Of Narnia........................well, who believes in talking lions who is capable of understanding the tenets of any major religion?.............at that stage you still believe in the Tooth Fairy?
For a better comparison to Rowlings, try Terry Pratchett...............now he IS fun, and could not seriously be accused of "obfuscating" the difference between good and evil.
Kthln01 Please try out both Rowlings and Pratchett.....................I guess you either love them or hate them?
Nah, the Pope is Italian...Quote:
Proof again that America is all about stifling human creativity.
Divinci Code - can't WAIT for the movie. But hey it makes the Church look bad, why would we expect them to like it regardless of it's fiction category. :D
Rowling is more than a millionairess, she reached a billionaireess status last year. And as for the audience... over half of Potter readers... half now... are over 30!!! According to my local newspaper.
Americans love Harry.
//EDIT I believe in Puff the Magic Dragon.
RoadClosed
Don't believe all the jealousy crap in the media................the films were not brilliant, and did not do that well................the acting and effects are "B-Movie" crap..........she will not have madfe that much.............anyways, how many go to the movies these days?...........a billion is 1,000,000,000 using American notation? spread that over 10 years and it is 100,000,000.............errrr no way Hose!
Last I saw she was worth around 40-50 million GBP..............which is one hell of an achievement, but believe me the days of billionaire through legitimate enterprise have long since gone :(
And NO!, I am not her tax accountant...................she couldn't afford me :p :D
EDIT:
Errrr................Quote:

Do the expressions "Banco Ambrosia" and " P2" mean anything to anyone here..........like the president or whatever of the Vatican Bankers: Banco Ambrosia being found hanging under a London bridge (hell of a way to commit suicide in my opinion?) For "P2" do a search within results for "freemasons"...............errrrr Cardinal Renzini said years ago that a Roman Catholic who joined the freemasons was instantly excommunicated?
Do the research yourselves guys?
You might be right. I disagree somewhat though, but thats okay. ;)Quote:
I would not be surprised if 70% of the readers of Harry Potter were 16 or older
That is true nihil, sorry..Quote:

What numbers are you looking at old friend? Bleh, it's alright. We agree to disagree :D I just wish you looked at numbers more often. Oh, and the record-breaking numbers they have done at that.Quote:
and did not do that well
Nihil old chap,
The movies have grossed over 1 billion US. Not bad, they aren't perfect but I like them. That last one was especially good. Call me biased. :D
I have read several articles stating Ms. Rowling in the billionaire category. That would be around 500 million pounds right? Here is an article from the UK. Rich Woman
As for the Divinci Code. I really don't know much about the history presented in it. SPOILER!!! I was merely talking about the plot. In modern terms of the book contents. Priests sanctioned by the vatican running around killing people within a secret US based society to get at the master key to unlock a valuable content. I totally like the book and I can see why the church would be against it. ;) Even though its fiction the author often presents it as historical fact. But that aside, it's just good reading friend.
\\EDIT actually that article states the movies made over 2 billion US> damn.
As long as I don't burn in hell before she writes the seventh book, I'll be happy! :D
As for our Hitler Youth German Pope, wonder what he thinks of some of Hitlers books?
Spyder ~ Go to a bookstore tomorrow night. Any bookstore. You will get an idea of how many people age 16+ read these books. And you'll bow at 70%, because it's at least that many. I will be there at 10 pm, waiting for my midnight release. :) (Got out of dressing up as Hermione though thank god!)
I am glad to hear it...........never visualised you with curly locks :D :pQuote:
(Got out of dressing up as Hermione though thank god!)
Hitler Youth wasn't really an option back in the day. I wouldn't hold it against him. ;) Now Deb I pictured you as a McGonagall. :D
-- Just kidding ... McGonagall. ;)
I suppose McGonagall is better than Hagrid! :kissass: ;)
