What can you do?.........Donate some monies to Aids relief and water exploration and drilling......tear in a bucket **** it. I'm satiated with the overall global humanitarian effort from this country as well. I don't loose sleep at night.

While the quote might have been a little out of place, as Agent_Steal said.. that's what everyone has been doing these past few nights. He's been in New Orleans for how long... he's being sent home and he's going to see his wife for the first time in how long... He has a right to that... and he's going right back to work after it.. I don't really think it was that bad.

Who's fault is the lack of education? Some peopel can't afford it... Blame the governments that refuse to fund education... In Germany their education is paid for, here anyone can get government funding (although it's not always enough)... Not everywhere is like that.

As for the parentless children... Why are they parentless... Drugs and Alcohol have taken their parents because there weren't enough social programs in place to provide assistance... They froze to death on the street because there are underfunded shelters. There parents were sent of to fight someone elses war and died... How can society be blamed on that...

Neither of those have been major detriments to society... How about the ease at which certain people step into Violence, how about the desensitization of the public due to movies and video games with increased gore... How about the destruction of human rights around the world... or the allowance for religion to guide world leaders.. Those problems don't stem from parentless children and lack of education...

So you're sleeping peacefully with your loved ones because your government as done enough to suit your needs, but then when a government official announces his plans for the day you attack him... Why is it all about AIDs relief, and water exploration.. If you're such a good humanitarian why aren't you pushing for more social programs, for less unneeded war, for less violence... for democratically elected officials that should be in place..

Well in my opinion he didnt do a super bad job but, he could have done alot better too! so he deserves to go see his wife and get back to work and hopefully the guy taking over will get all the sh*t done and get those people back to normal as fast as possible.

In my eyes, Bush is conducting a mass extermination... with the weapons and technology the US has, there's no need for a single civilian casualty... yet there are plenty of them... so I see it as a mass extermination...

It's my belief that he is trying to wipe out a group of people... A lot of people are against the war and say the war isn't needed, yet it still proceeds on... Every day the innocent casualties rise... I think it's a thinly veiled extermination... It's an opinion... but it's mine.. As for software containing bugs.... yes... it does... but that doesn't justify the number of innocent lives lost.

That last figure was from 2004... 100,000 excess deaths in a year? Well on the way to what I would consider genocide or to put another name on it.. the Holocaust... The Holocaust resulted in 6 million deaths over 7 years.... I would assume most of those came in the middle and near the end, as at the beginning they were only picking up steam... It may trivialize the Holocaust... I can leave it out and simply use the world genocide if people prefer, but it's what I believe is happening.

you MIGHT be excused for that IF the US forces conducted house to house searches and killed everyone they found ...........

as it is the US and Alliance forces do not retaliate even when they have suffered losses from attacks in that area.

When the UK forces lost that Military Police unit, the locals were in hiding until British Army units patrolled the area announcing that they / we do NOT retaliate against the local populace, only against those that actually took part ..........

AND that they [the attackers] would be found and tried in a court of LAW ........

As you OBVIOUSLY have no concept of what fear really is, I would suggest that you keep your ill informed remarks strictly for your eyes only ........

The place where the respective governments failed this time, that I can see, is in mobilization...when the decision to evacuate was made, before the storm hit, there should have been a concerted effort to mobilize all the buses ( school and city ), trains, transport trucks, etc...in the surrounding area, to transport out those lacking adequate transportation...

then...

one lane of traffic out of the city should have been dedicated to this traffic, just like the emergency shoulder of the road...those in cars should have been placed in priority sequence...certain roads out should have been also dedicated specifically for family and car pool traffic...

the failure this time was in a very poor mobilization of the means to implement this evacuation.

We’re always quick to point to the bums in Washington DC and granted some of it is much deserved (I’ll leave that trashing to you folks:)). Figures they need to call in the Coast Guard to clean up the mess!

But also when we talk about this Hurricane and the enemas commence, start at the Mayor’s Office and proceed directly to the Governor and stop. He’s at the end of that anal cavity. It was the local and state governmental bodies that failed and continue to fail miserably. Their incompetence or blind eye began many days before the hurricane made land fail and continued into its aftermath. The Federal Government had already declared that area a disaster days before the hurricane hit. What did the Governor do when asked, “How can we help you?” Well for some unknown reason the Mayor and the Governor found them a corner and assumed the fetal position. “Mommie make it go away!” Then after the fact, pointing the finger and blame in every which direction to conceal their failures! When all along they had at their disposal a multitude of state and local resources with the federal stuff on standby. They could have prevented much of the suffering that is taking place.

Their leadership reminds me of half a jock strap during a sporting event.

I have not had any personal experience with FEMA. We rent, therefore, we don't have any reason to deal with them...they deal with home/property owners. However, they are, as was mentioned before, another example of government bloating and (to use what is probably a politically incorrect saying) "too many chiefs, not enough Indians". They announced, in the hubbub caused by Katrina's second landfall on the Gulf Coast, that victims of the first landfall, in South Florida, were not going to be able to make any claims. Their reasoning? That there were too many fraudulent claims last year. Well, excuse me, but isn't that why we pay them? To filter out the real from the fraudulent? And now, because they were unable to successfully do that, people who actually need their help are not going to get it? I'd be willing to bet that those same people don't get any tax cuts, even though they're clearly not getting what they paid for.

I know that it's hard for people who aren't directly affected to really take this seriously. I understand that, cause I've been the one looking at it going "Gee, that's sad, but it doesn't really affect me" in other situations. Not that Katrina directly affected me, but it could have done so easily. What I'd like is to see people look at it from their personal perspectives. This is the FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT for our country. What that means is that if some clown detonates a dirty bomb in your local train station, or supermarket, or shopping mall, these same idiots are going to be in charge of your food, water, transportation, and personal safety. How safe do you feel?

It's been brought up that the people who were in New Orleans somehow deserved what they got, because they are welfare recipients, and that the problem is with the government, but that it started 40 years ago, by instituting the welfare program which has led to the kind of living conditions that led to the Superdome, and the Convention Center. Yes, I will agree that welfare is a crutch, not a helping hand. And that it prolongs a sense of lassitude and irresponsibility. However...these are still people. Ask yourself, if you hadn't had the good fortune to have been born into a family that could take care of you, into a family that had a good chance of giving you a start into the kind of life that you wanted, would you want to be written off as a "welfare case" and your family and your needs somehow less important than others? The fact of the matter is that regardless of what your personal situation is, you're no less important than anyone else. And I don't think it was neccesarily an issue of color, but one of "caste". These were not important people. So the measures neccesary for their safety weren't there.

As for the government responsibility...pfffft. There's so much blame to be spread around it's stupid. The mayor...I honest to god feel for this man. He's passionate, he cares about his peole, he cares about his city. Is he qualified for his job? I'm thinking probably not. The governor should have called for National Guard intervention long before she did. She's not too bright, apparently. And the federal government...yes, there's blame, yes, there should have been money to strengthen the levees. But there was an enormous amount of money going into the state of Louisiana, and maybe someone should have been looking at how much and how it was being spent, instead of just handing over money.

It's a sad, shitty, horrible situation. And as usual, it's the people who have the least amount of power, and the least amount of situational responsibility who are paying for it.

All this **** about Brown is total crap. Accusations are flying everywhere,
and he is the scapegoat. He didn't make the statement about going home
and walking the dog until after he was sacked and told to go back
to washington. Read the whole article.

Fema is not the fire department. They provide help after the emergency
For God's sake this was a natural disaster. You may as well blame god!
We could fire thousands of bureaucrats(and maybe we should), but it would
be better to wait until dispassionate experts report on this two or three years
from now and make practical reccomendations.
