Top ten ways...
Hello AO:
I'm looking to create a "Top Ten ways to tell if your Systems Administrator is Bored" List. Something that would be funny to techies as well as non techies. You know people like the sysadmin' boss.
Anyway, the only thing I can come up with is
...If he answers the help desk phone.
...All the digital clocks in the office are flashing "Is it time to go yet?"
The BOFH series are good, but non techies would have a hard time finding the humor. Maybe tell me what you do when you're bored and want to amuse yourself with network resources.
Thanks,
Dino

How about, "When he's reading his email instead of yours"
-
Great - Added to the list
-
-
"When he starts to play MineSweeper!"
Or
"When he starts to gossip!!"
Or
"When he starts to play with his mobile phone!"
-
Or
"When you remember what he looks like?"
Most of the SysAdmin's I've worked with are usually so busy that u rarely see him. One thing I've noticed at my job, when he gets bored, he walks around the office....repeatedly.
-
When he installs a gaint scoreboard showing "System Uptime" and stands under it with a grin on his face for hours at a time.
-
When he starts throwing darts at his door.
When he plays basketball on one monitor and plays mp3's on the other.
When he stands up, walks into my office, and stares straight up at the ceiling trying to think up something for me to do.
-
When he's running a Linux server.

-
when he's bringing BUD into the office
-
When he runs out of beer ... ;-)
-
when he starts to send c.v. for another job....

CV: A special type of resume traditionally used within the academic community. Earned degrees, teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, and related activities are featured. Unlike a resume, a CV tends to be longer and more informational than promotional in tone. Note: The CV required in theses and dissertations follows a very specific format.
No you did not miss something, but the poster has missuderstood the purpose of the thread .....
NIKLAS?, the thread is ment to take suggestio from people about what a sysadmin do when he fells bored or has no more tasks to do or nothing more to do that day .....
Cheers

C.V. is latin (I think) - Curriculum Vitae
Bored BofH - How can you tell the sysadmin is bored? He's walking about with an optical mouse taped to his head pretending to be a Borg.
-
sorry to bump
But I'm looking to put this list on the IT Christmas card from the IT department to the company.
Anymore ideas would be lovely? (trying to sound British)
-
CV is indeed Curriculum Vitae, and is the european word for a 'resume'. I was pretty friggin' confused until I figured that one out... :)
Your know your sysadmin is bored when: he's actually fixing something.
-
YOu know hes bored when: The office lights spell messages from the outside.
-
-
You know hes bored when: All the computers in accounting begin to play christmas carols in 10-part harmony
-
also you know he is board when he changes the required password policy to 50 charictors, and required caps and speacial symbles
-
You know your systems administrator is bored when no employee has gone missing in two weeks (or, conversely, when many employees have gone missing in two weeks).
-
You know your system admin is bored when:
He talks to people who think linux is a type of car.
He listen to what is being said, even if he's not the one talking
-
if he translates the company policy book into binary.
-
Builts a fort out of floppies and CD's.
-
When he's on AO asking for suggestions on the top ten ways to tell if your sys admin is bored. :D
-
Playing laser tag with an optical mouse.
Pulling apart a ribbon cable.
Organizing his desk and book rack.
When he's juggling mouse balls.
Smiles.
Really does have a mouse in his pocket.
cheers
