France - and Europe are mad as hell and aren't going to take it anymore-a 'new'Google

Just saw this as I was looking for information on the hostage


Europe - in particular, France is looking to cream the US with a new version of Google:

My question is - why? If they want to snub the US - make an advance in something new in IT - not revamped something already done. And maybe they are - maybe it's a multi-pronged attack - I don't know - but it is interesting nonetheless.

Reminds me of that song "Everything you can do I can do better", except maybe that would apply a little better if we were to re-word it as "Everything you can do we can try and do better only to fail again and again"

Like foxy siad, france really needs to stop trying to improve upon not only already existing technology, but technology that really doesn't need to be improved upon yet. If france really wants to feel special let them help with something like, o i don't know, world peace, terrorism . . . .

I think it's interesting that people who hate us so much - work to one-up us all the time - I don't care if they do one-or more-than-one us up - it's all for naught as the ideas get copied anyway - doesn't matter the country - could be the US or Canada or whatever - what will it prove - zip!

If Mexico or Greenland invented Google - would France have a hissy, throw their pastries and wine glasses, straighten out their berets, take a shower and start programming?!?

I care - because they care - and I send Hallmark cards because I care so much. Actually I care because I can and while I love the architecture in Paris, I could not stand most of the Parisians when I was there. People outside of Paris are great.

Well that and Chirac is trying to one up a country lead by a Dubya - and it just starts me a laughing. And yes Dubya is the Commander-In-Chief - a position I respect highly - but as I found out in the military - I can respect the position/rank/office - I don't have to respect the person.

BTW - If they were serious - they would keep tabs on China and India - go one-up them. I want our country to become like Switzerland and get everyone off our a$$.

You had bad experiences w/ the French on your trip so now you are pissed. So what?

Everyone has a right to compete. If Peru tried for the same thing would you post it?

President Toledo also stated that Peru is really experiencing delays in production as well. Everytime Toledo fires them up to go attack the American Market, the burros go on strike because they can only make two trips a week up and down the Andes.

Now i'm not disagreeing with anything said in this thread, cause lets be honest, the french ar a bunch of... well you get what i mean. As for the rest of Europe for me the jury is still out, but i'm leaning towards the bunch of... verdict.

Anyway in regards to that article, i think you've got to also look at the source and what "slant" they are putting on it. They may have listed a number of pretty poor/lame/crap efforts by the french/chirac to go one up on america, but when they include the new GPS Satellite network in with those efforts you gotta think they are stretching a bit as if succesful it will be hugely more accurate, and create a GPS network that is not ultimately under military control.

I wouldn't worry about it. A new search engine and the new GPS system will probably only work 50% of the time. The rest of the time the technicians will be on strike because the government work let them smoke in thee control room or will have put the price of their Gaulois and Gitanes by €0.01.

The rest of the time service will be intermittent when technical staff can't get to work because of the motorways being blocked by indignant (and unsanitary) sheep farmers striking no doubt because they no longer get an EU handout for everytime they fornicate with one of their flock in the town square.

All these silly little ideas to make the French feel useful are probably being paid by EU subsidies (national Prozac), and I'd quite like my chunk back thank you.

My apologies. Please allow me to restate my point. They can compete all they wish - having defended our country and our rights - I fully believe in free enterprise. The issue is that France's current foreign policy looks to "compete" with the US at everything - which is not a problem, but the reasoning for that competition - basically to snub our country gets annoying at times. Furthermore - why do they feel the need to compete like that - we know they have talented people there - just look at the gaming company - Ubisoft. As I and others have stated - if they as a populis wish to prove something - do something our government can't or won't do - solve world hunger or poverty or something different. That's the point.

Also - just because I had bad experiences with the French - actually just the citizens of Paris, does not mean I wish them harm; I do not wish to "bomb them" - what would that prove?!? And my experiences with the citizens of Paris go beyond my earlier declaration - I just highlighted that part of my life to illustrate my point.

And about Peru - if they afflicted me and our country as France - more so Paris than France as a whole has recently done - then yes - I would post. And considering your nom de plume (see - I don't totally hate on the French) I would have thought you would be unhappy :D as well - or at least curious about this topic. Ok lame attempt at humor - but this audit is draining me. :p

I thought actually it would have been more slanted against the US - being from Aljazeera. Heh - and you are right - I do not want to negate any of their accomplishments - I just would prefer they move in new directions - they don't have to prove anything to the world or the US - they were a country long before we were. But I am not against them competing - just saying they don't need to.

Look,.....like Foxy's sig, ever since they have been beaten and whipped (twice by the Germans), they feel a need to reassert themselves in the eyes of the world, so to a Frenchman, if they know it rankles the "Anglophones" they will go out of their way to do so, case in point....At all airports around the globe the language used for safety purposes is "English" for arrivals espescially, but here in Canada, the Quebecers wanted it to be in French, just had to have it in French, of course it got turned down and they had to comply with the "International Standards"....
