Well... Many of the seniors who left AO have shown up at Unerror at some point or another.
Hey Hey,
As d0pp mentioned... there's unerror... another that has AO members is @ http://tazforum.**********.com however both of those are very limited, due to low user bases and lack the posts... you'll find the stuff you find here only less of it...
Some of the bigger forums out there (although not the same personal feel as AO) are:
http://www.security-forums.com/
http://www.governmentsecurity.org/forum/index.php
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ <-- has a lot of "official" forums for various products used around the security world...
I've been looking more and more to mailing lists... The way some of them are, it's like forums to your mailbox..
Peace,
HT
I don't care where you go... This one has the cutest gals.... ;)
Cheers D0pp, HT.
Whats with the TAZ forum, seems like a scaled down version of AO, same people and stuff!
Hi Nokia,
Actually, even though it has AO members it's not a security site...it's an exercise in creating a member-controlled enviroment...a community forum where the members run it.
Eg ;)
At least that's the goal and vision.
So... Eg... Do you get to kill poeple if you want to? Metaphorically speaking, of course... ;)
Hey Eg,
Sounds like fun, how longs has it been running, Ive never heard of it before!
//TS, do you have to be a dick in all your posts.
Nokia....
If you have no sense of humor, don't post at me please... What the hell do you think the AP system here is all about...
Think before you post because when you don't you show yourself to be really, really silly....
There was a "metaphorically speaking" _and_ a ;) in that post....
Grow up!!!!!!
Hi Nokia,
I appreciate the jump in...but I know TS was joking. ;)
TS...it was an honest mistake on Nokia's part...no need to get into each other's hairs.
Eg ;)
Eg:
No, it wasn't "honest"... Nokia has been around me long enough....
There was clearly humor in my post... He decided to take a bitch fit on it... I'll look after myself thanks.... Though your good grace is appreciated...
I'm in a bad mood right now that will not go away for a while... People who want to be... errr... foolish... yeah, thats a good word.... around me will suffer for it I'm afraid.... I don't give a ****.... and I don't really care if I hurt their little feelings....
Never mind....
I give up....
The Tiger is drunk. Lucky.
Hi TS,
There's been times that things were right in my face and couldn't see them...I based that ' honest ' mistake upon the fact I haven't read any threads to my knowledge where you were at odds against each other...
to the best of my knowledge there is no history between you two to suggest to me it was anything but an ' honest ' mistake.
As for being in a bad mood...I advise...a beer, a woman, and Young Frankenstien :D
not necessarily in that order.
Eg ;)
What's the point of going to another website when you're just goingQuote:
Well... Many of the seniors who left AO have shown up at Unerror at some point or another.
to meet the same people?
Might as well stay here.
That's weird. I'd never heard of that Taz forum but it looks a lot like this place. You guys are weirding me out :P
uhm, another is www.itfreaks.com but quite frankly, wouldnt recommend the site. dont like it (well ive been banned like a dozen times, but ya). its kinda the reincarnation of hackers.com as the domain pointed to itfreaks for a year or so.
if your desperate, give it a shot, but otherwise id stay away.
Howdy.
here's some other forums that i frequent.
Windows Security.com/
Government Security
IrcSpy & TorrentSpy
FlexBeta
Mega Security
Hot Hardware
Techimo
Unerror
cheers
front2back
Well, if you're into Linux, nothing beats LinuxQuestions.org. It's got a great community and there are over 200,000 members - so yeah, there isn't much monotony to it ;)
I'm not sure why, I just think AO has been slowing down... when I first joined, there were tons of users and even more different, interesting threads. Now there're only the 'I've been hacked' or 'HELP VIRUS' that are seen - with the occassional new release of nmap posted by TH :D
Anyway, I'm definitely staying. I'm hoping that someday the community will revive itself, as will the interesting, informative and unique threads that I used to see around here. ;)
Cheers,
-jk
... atleast i'm still AT HOME in here.
AO is like FAMILY to me :)
cheers!
Yeah to me too...although it's becoming a bit disfunctional again and in need of counciling. :(Quote:

I used to check out www.security-forums.com and it's ok because tends to have more technical stuff there but also tends to not have in depth stuff AO has (at least used to have more).
Couple others I check out once in a while...some not in a great while:
Security Forum X
Castle Cops - kinda cool cuz has product-focused forums

Perhaps, it's something to do with the changing face of AO through the years.
In 2000 Dr K published a book called " a complete Hacker's Handbook" in which
he listed about 70 websites for getting more info on that subject, AO is number
15 on that list.
As I find it here Hacking is kind of taboo subject on AO where
no one is allowed to openly talk about.
HUH? who told you? maybe it depends on the questions of HACKING :rolleyes:Quote:

Hi Broomie,
it's not that it's taboo...it's just that AO cannot reasonably be seen as promoting illegal activity now can it?Quote:

That would reflect badly upon JupM and it's sponsors if it was promoting illegal activity...or...giving out the instructions for those activities.
AO...even under JP was supposed to....in theory...teach you how to protect yourself from illegal activity...by knowing what they know and how to counter it.
you can still do that here...in conference rooms, in addicts, you just have to be more careful where you put it...or you could receive a bill in the mail for the sponsor you cost them.
Eg ;)
Hmmm,
Actually, there isn't a forum on this site which would naturally cater for discussions about "hacking" in general. They are all "security" orientated, and tend to be quite fine in their granularity.Quote:

So, if you wanted to start a serious discussion about hacking in general you would be left with no option but to put it in a "wrong" forum.
Just my thoughts
:)
im a senior member of http://www.security-forums.com/ the other seniors on that forum are mainly network admins and no matter what question you have they can awnser it. But your not going to see much "HOW TO HACK" there hehe
and also i find the hak.5 forums to be new but have some great members there.
if you want to talk openly about hacking then you just gotta know where to go, theres a place for everything. Binrev, hak.5 go to these sites, take some time look up past posts and follow the links that are posted there. You'll find some great links/
lol id like to see them try and bill me lol.
in order to know how to protect yourself you need to know how its done. calling it security instead of hacking doesnt make the knowledge any different.
you guys seem to have an ugly interpretation on what promotion means. providing information is one thing. telling people how to use it is another. Providing people with information that can be used for illegal purposes isnt illegal or immoral. telling people to use that knowledge for illegal purposes is where it becomes illegal and or unethical. and quite frankly, i believe that you guys telling people how to use what you wish to offer is just plain stupid. you might prefer they use info for the good of man kind, but if you wish to share that knowledge because you believe in the idea of free and open knowledge, you shouldnt be trying to direct how that information is dispensed and used.
It's called acting in a responsible and mature manner...if this was a home security site would you expect us to tell a burglar how to break into your home...or teach you how to keep him out?Quote:

Eg ;)
Think thats the best way I've ever heard that put, Eg!
why are you given the responsibility of censoring that information? and quite frankly if you want to teach someone how to keep burglars out, you have to teach them how they can get in. the two go hand in hand, no ifs ands or buts.
you arent here to censor information, you are here to share it. the questions may be worded differently and one sentence may imply the intentions of the user, but that doesnt make it so.
Maybe its cause i believe in the freedom of information and the free use of it, but i dont see why you should try to censor what information you have. after all, you got it some how.
now that hardly means you cant be mature and responsible about it. you dont have to post **** on a forum that you know will cause problems, like a 0day you found that hasnt been patched. that might be unreasonable due to your personal ethics, but dont bind people to your ethics. Its not illegal. You sound like a religion. anal sex is a sin, w00t, who cares, dont harass the fag down the street cause you dont think its right. its not up to you and its not your problem.
now this place may have its rules, but quite honest, i havent come accross them. unless it states "no tools or information that *could* potentially be used to compromise anything, may not be posted" then mind your own business. if the rules do happen to state that, then well, i have no idea how they can even consider calling a security site. there wouldnt be anything to discuss. If you want an example, ask someone about hackers.com > you were not allowed to discuss anything potentially illegal, which meant the quality of posts and the site became dead. no advanced users, only newbies asking stupid basic questions. no one with any security knowledge with any merit posted. Thats the future for this site if that is the case with the rules here.
you guys sound like a bunch of newbies that arent unwilling to share information, but rather dont have the information to share to begin with.
Kids... I've been arguing my same point for years...
If you come here and publish the code and tell someone "This is what you do to use it" then your intent is not good.
If you come here and tell us the code works by doing this, that and the other without a detailed set of instructions on how to use the exploit then that is just fine. Your showing me the code will give me a chance to determine what I can do to stop it.... At a minimum I might be able to come up with a Snort rule to tell me when I have seen the exploit on my network.
That's what full disclosure is about.... Tell me the information and let me decide what I need to do about it.... Spoonfeed some little dickhead.... Now that's a different issue....
ya im not saying you should be giving someone step by step instructions to do anything, but dont hide information because it could be used badly.
Sorry for the double post but I think this requires it's own, individual, response.....Quote:
but dont bind people to your ethics.
If I don't try to bind you to my ethics I have none at all.... or at best, I have only yours... I have more than you... But, the unethical you, wants me to desert mine so you or others can have your destructive mayhem...
Then move on dear boy... move on... We stay for our own reasons... Far be it from us to force you to stay where you aren't wanted or needed... We've survived in the past, we are surviving in the present and, those of us that have remained here for a while will continue to survive in the future.... Funny how it works... I put it down to intelligence and the ability to understand.... You seem to think that if I don't do things that fit your "ethics" then I am a noob....Quote:

Funny, waaaay too funny.... I was kicking the ass of stupid little children like you before your daddy even knew what the "twinkle" in his adolescent eye was.... You think you are hanging on the "dark side".... Son, I could bring you so much ****ing dark you wouldn't be able to find your light switch or your dick... Trust me....
Trot along now and play with your little friends....
The way I look at it is:
AO exists because it makes someone, somewhere money, **** bust.
How does it make that money? Well if you look at the top of every page, you will see adverts from: Microsoft, Intel, IBM, HP etc etc.
Now would anyone of them companys want their name on a "hacking" web site......nope... hence the reason people who post stuff like you are on about Freakyg, dont tend to stay here for long because this will take away the advertising, the money and ultimatley AO.
You know what this site is and what its not by now, if you dont like it or dont agree with it...... simple answer..go somewhere else. If you do like it, stay.
lol. this is starting to get funny.
i honestly couldnt care less about who you are, or who you think i am. i only know what i am, and what you portray. youve assumed that i am a little kid or teenager that spends his time causing all kinds of problems for helpless little people. ever heard the saying that to assume makes an Ass out of you and Me?
now i believe ive kept mostly to the points on the topic at hand, not too personal? and yet you seem to want to take it there. are you really that much more mature? my perception that most people who want to hide knowledge on forums, are those people who dont have it, and that is a valid statement for most "security boards"
but what it gets right down to, is that you want to teach people how to secure without teaching people how to break, and while that might work some of the time, you arent teaching people how to think like their enemy. in order to protect, you need to undstand the thought process behind breaking in. looking for those ways in.
and Nokia: did you call me "**** bust"? sorry that was just so out of the blue im just not sure. thats aside that if it was an insult, i just plain dont understand what it was supposed to be insulting. but anyways, you do make a good point, this site does seem to revolve around making money and advertisements. the community comes second?
and you're also right, i do tend to end up getting banned from sites that like to control how its information is used, cause i usually get into these identical debates. Pisses off the staff cause some one is distrubing their belief that they are right and people shouldnt have an opinion other than there own.
i like information. ill share any information i have. i might not be out hacking the white house websites, but im not gonna screen anyone who wants to know something that could be potentially dangerous or illegal. i could kill you witha pencil, but im not gonna keep a student from using a pencil because it could be dangerous.
in my current field we use a motto for dealing with people that goes "Assume Innocence". Why dont you assume people are good until proven guilty? might just be my country that has those values though.
I just looked at your profile....
I was _exactly_ correct... I have been dealing with security _professionally_, since before your daddy had his twinkle.... In many of it's forms... In that time I have learned to see things in people... I see it in you... No big deal, you aren't important to me...
Reminder: _Only_ _I_ know who or what I am too... A pissing match with a juvenile isn't something I'll get into with you... You aren't worth my time or effort...
I suggested that if you don't like the place then just **** off.... Is that too compicated for you?
[EDIT]
Damn... another Canadian... What is it with you people?????
Nice Canadians excepted!!!!!!!!!!!
[/EDIT]
No Freakyg, it was not an insult in anyway towards you, maybe its an english saying??
"AO exists because it makes someone, somewhere money, **** bust."
In-other-words, thats all there is to it, AO is here because it makes money, period! (think thats what you guys say?)
Just a point though, no-one is censoring anything here, anyone can post what they want, they may get some negative AP's or something for it but they can still post it.
If someone doesnt want to help someone who asks "how can I hack hotmail" well,, thats up to the individual, if someone does want to help him, fine.
This site used to be a hell of alot more fun and laid back...
I don't know where you and others get off thinking that this site is in any shape to drive membership away. There is really only two or three people I've known here that I can honestly say are a cool and bright bunch... we've each grown annoyed with the place.Quote:

Impressive. He lasted a whole 5 minutes and 1 post this time. Good job Mods!
Ahem?! Since when? Our Country is as backward when it comes to equibility as any...assumed innocent is an ideal but a very unrealistic one...the next time someone breaks into your house and a suspect is caught two streets down standing beside your tv...remind the oficers to let him go until the trial...I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige and forgo the paperwork.Quote:
