Hi,
What you might want to do is try a "Live Linux CD" which is basically a Linux distribution which runs from your cd drive. That way you can try out Linux and get a feel for it without having to install it. If you do that, be aware it will run more slowly than if it were installed on your hard drive. You might want to try Knoppix, but a Google search will locate some other Live Cd options. Installing Linux will entail dealing with some other issues, particularly if you want to keep also Windows on your laptop.
Why don't you try that first, see how you like it, come back and tell us what you want to do? I'm sure I and some of the other Linux users here would have some more helpful advice.
If you are absolutely new to computers, the easiest way
would be to get a friend help you. Otherwise, I would advise
downloading SLAX . You download an ISO
file, burn it to a cd. When you boot this cd, it temporarily runs
Linux on your computer without installing it. If you already
have internet service, and are connected, there's a good
chance it will automatically recognize this and you can surf
the net. It is a good way to test drive Linux before you
install. Installing is more complicated, and usually involves
removing Windows from your computer, along with all
your existing data (although not strictly necessary in all
cases)
Euhmm ...what ?? ...
Ok ...It seems you are a littlebit interested in computers, otherwise you wouldn't be on AO (unless you'" a troll :D)... So how come you never saw "this" OS called Linux.
Anyway ...cutting this answer short, as it has been asked "SO" many time in "SO" many alterations ...
You could start by reading THIS
Then you could use THIS to find out even more.
Then you could download, burn and use one of THESE they are Linux Live CD's ...so you can run them from the CD you burned..this way nothing needs to be installed or altered on your PC.
Start with that ...It will teach you alot about Linux ...Then if you have more specific questions you can always come back and ask them ;)
This is just friendly information ... but these questions and lots like em, have been asked before ..many times ...just use the search function of AO.
Oh btw ..."offcourse" Linux can go on the internet :D
[edit]seems like preacherman481 and rcgreen beat me to it [/edit]

how do i do a print screen using slax?
?? Are you janking my chain ... You have it running allready ...how in the hell can't you know that that is Linux ...didn't it say Slax Linux Live CD when you downloaded it ???Quote:

Not to be insulting, but this is a prime example of whats wrong with the people in the security world.Quote:

Punk?
Punk? Thanks for the humor. However I was 23 before you were on the teet. Who knows I might be your daddy.
Hey D0ppy~ would ya like me to try.............there might be a bug?...............seriously though, wasn't there a comment, I didn't think you could submit APs without a comment?
I frequently can't...........but that is why they brought it to me in the first place :p :DQuote:

Well, the comment was "insulting"...
But... that can be good and bad?
And I really don't care about AP's. God knows I have gotten thousands, both positive and negative. It really doesn't matter since almost none were for anything meaningful.
I bet if I created a thread about gore being fat, I'd get three more dots before I got banned. Whether or not there was anything even remotely useful in there. (No, I am not calling him fat, it is a reference to post I saw a few weeks ago.)
Well ..I was going to give him a positive greenie for making me laugh out loud ... But then I started to read it again ... and thought ...no way ...He's following a course or is in college for networking ...and he doesn't know which OS he is using ??? ... Then I saw his profile ...He's supposed to be 30 ...hmmm ... Anyway ...It's not necessary anymore is it ;) :D
Doppy shame on you!
We have a saying over here "You might as well be hanged a sheep as a lamb"Quote:

Time to get meaningful old chap :p :D
