1) New threads.
2) Response to other threads.
wow, you have been here for how long and made how many posts and you haven't figured that out on your own????
ARE YOU SERIOUS????
lol..... oh well.... now you know....
Best thread ever.
Apparently, you have a drop in IQ on Fridays as well.Quote:
Mood: stressed

*looks at The Texan's profile then looks at the thread*
Help me out here...I don't get HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW THAT?
I...I..am trying so hard here to be nice...ARRGH, but this takes the cake for the month.
I'd seriously delete this thread to avoid all embarrassment. MY GOD.
*me watches redneck get higher and higher
take christina's advice
delete and move on
and remember
if in doubt - DON'T :D
Ah! but why has no one given the correct answer? and I am not absolutely sure that this is all of it because I cannot be bothered to mess around testing.
:p
Tex~
1. The front page has 24 "slots" for posts.
2. What :Singh: said is fundamentally correct.
3. On the front page, under "Member Options" the last one in the first set is "Edit Front Page Display".
4. You are taken to a table where YOU decide what goes on the front page of YOUR display.
The underlying rule is that "last entered/updated goes first", which is #2 above.
As you might expect, a moderator will have everything apart from "archives" so would see the last 24 new or updated posts.
Others would see older posts, depending on their personal selections.
If you look at the bottom left of the posts list you will see "View More Active Topics". That will show you more posts (over 24 because it paginates) and seems to refresh every 24 hours.
After that you need to look at individual forums, and after that at the archives.
:)
Nihil, come on now, I think it's time we mods come clean. The hint was "gore has a legion of little leprachauns trying to steal that shiny pot of positive APs". We pay the little elvish people in APs every night to come online and wave their magic wand over AO, and threads dissapear based on suckage.
Now you know.
EDIT:
DEAR GOD! MY UNIX LINUX BSD SECURITY TIPS THREAD IS GONE FROM THE FRONT PAGE TOO! Ugh, I'm SO stealing those little Bastard's Lucky Charms.
I don't think the question was that simple, as I look at the new posts (while logged in) I see the patriot act must die...08:39 pm, but if I log out the top post is How do posts get booted 12:16Am, so you gurus can you explain that one... ;)
Your preferences are different than the default preferences (not logged in or never have changed the settings) for the script on the main page, thus pulling different posts from the forums based on those preferences.Quote:

Here:

or to make it easier...SCRIPTING CONDITIONALS.
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...e_conditionals
That makes two.
Gore
Actually, I don't think that there is an FAQ that specifically deals with this question?
I thought that it was worthy of an answer (if only based on my observations) to let people know that they can design their own front page content and get a quick start on most recent activity?
I have slightly modified the title to make it more comprehensive for searches.
//off topic
I was thinking of you just now as I poured myself another glass of "The Little Penguin"............a cheeky Shiraz from South Eastern Australia..............unfortunately not open source, but @ 13.5% abv, it will suffice :drink:

Hmmmm,
I am making this a separate post because the subject is relevant but tangential.
Please remember that you are effectively taking "snapshots" of web pages? so, if you go into new posts and then exit without refreshing your browser will probably refresh the page that you return to if set to do that.
Certainly, a new login will have that effect. I have noticed that when I go to answer a post and come back to "new posts" everything is as it was when I left it. If I then hit "refresh" several new items will appear, or stuff will change position.
I am using tabbed browsing; might this be the cause?
hm, I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say? are you hitting the back button without refreshing after you post a reply? If that's the case, of course you are looking at an old snapshot...you'd have to go forward to see the newest version and have the script update itself with the new information.
If you're still not seeing the information going forward after you've posted the reply and have to refresh to get it - it's a caching issue, which is highly possible seeing that this is a very hacked, unsupported old version of vBulletin. It could probably use a lot of code optimization and an upgrade.
Hi Christina
I believe that is a pretty accurate analysis ;)Quote:

Well people sure do like to have fun at my expense! Some of you have advised that I delete this post to avoid embarrassment but I learned long ago not to be embarrassed about anything. I asked what I thought was a valid question but apparently others dont think so. Anyway thanks for those of you trying to be serious ( Mostly Nihil) I guess the concenus is after 24 hrs the new posts just "appear" on the board and the old ones disappear. anyway im not afraid to ask questions and look stupid, who knows how many other people wanted to know that and were just afraid to ask! so to all of you, I could say suck it! but I wont lol go ahead have a laugh and I will laugh with you :)
P.S. I do believe Gore had the best answer :D and in my defense it was late when I posted that I was tired.
24 posts - not hours :fish:
And I shouldn't say "posts" because it's not entirely correct... but it's 24 times more correct than "every 24 hours" ::worms::
Fishes and worms... I must be the first one to ever use those smilies...
Interesting thread.
Comical, informative yet sad all at the same time.
--TH13
now can it be closed. ;)
seeing as it has served it's purpose and all..
me flexes moderator muscles and goes to close thread, but realise's he's on the wrong forum.
There is one other bit that I noticed that cause the demotion of posts...
Sometimes, newbies like me look at a thread aged up to almost two years... then post a reply and that suddenly bumps up the thread despite its relative obsolescence (maybe not in the topical sense but definitely on account of its date of initiation).
[Edit: mispelled 'cause']
Actually Goitz ,
I think that you mean "promotion", as it brings it back to the top of the stack :DQuote:

As far as I am aware the age of the original post that started the thread does not matter. It is the time/date of the last post that promotes a thread. Obviously, in the case of a new thread, this is also the first post.
Another point regarding what appears on the front page: there is a "default" for which forums appear. If a post arrives in a non-qualifying forum, you won't see it, even though it is newer than some of the 24 items that are displayed. As I mentioned earlier you can customise which forums are displayed, using the option in the Member Functions section.
I also mentioned the View More Active Topics feature, that shows you recent posts, and seems to clear down on a 24 hour cycle.
Under the Member Functions section you have another option "Mark All Forums Read" which will provoke a clearing down of this display. Threads will only reappear if they have a new post to them or if they are a new thread. This option also clears your new messages count and new antipoints message.
:)

That clears up my confusion... ;) :D
Tks nihil... :p
Question laughed at and answered, thread closed :)
