So what movies scare the crap out of the members of AO?
I am a big fan of the classics:
Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm St.
The Omen
Just to name a few...
Poltergiest(s) and The Simpsons halloween specials. LOL
In terms of really being scary or suspenseful, the first two that come to mind would be John Carpenter's the thing, and Stanley Kubrick's the shining. But I'm a big fan of old time Universal studios black-and-white horror films like the Wolf Man, the mummy, etc.. Films from that genre. However one of the few remakes that I think is good is the remake of the mummy. One of the reasons I think it's good is because it in no way attempted to copy the original. It took a completely different approach, and it worked. Also has excellent effects
The Shining is an excellent movie... [and boogymantroy is right... so is the Shinning :)] I haven't seen many of the old scary movies... I watched the remake of Dracula [half of it anyway] I couldn't get past Keanu Reeves though... I kept waiting for a phone booth to fall from the sky or something...
There's nothing quite like old horror movies in black and white. The Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr. is a particular favorite. Not the werewolf of London, however. A werewolf is not supposed to put on a hat and a scarf before he goes out to kill, nor is he supposed to be leveled by a clout on the jaw from a human.
Heh, someone is going to think I'm showing off, but this is only a HALF of my horror collection:

--------------------------------------------
I'll point out a few things:
First, a couple movies are on there multiple times. No I wasn't drunk... Well I could have been,l but that isn't the reason, the reason is because I own multiple copies or versions of some movies.
I own 10 copies of Night of the Living Dead. Two of the 1990 Re-Make, one on VHS one on DVD, and the rest are the original, and the reason I have so many of the original is because the first copy I bought was VHS and I started wearing down the tape on it, so I bought it on DVD, then I found one that was 5 minutes longer than the one I had, so I bought that too and it just went on and on and on, I kept finding releases with more features and commentaries and extra scenes so whenever I find a version Id on't have I buy it.
I have 4 copies of Dawn of the Dead. One is the unrated uncut director's cut version, one is the VHS copy of the same thing, one is the special edition that has about 15 minutes extra footage they cut out and another is the remake.
--------------
Second, I haven't updated this list in almost a year, and have since gotten about 40 new movies to add.
----------------
Also since Grindhouse came out, it's MUCH easier to find the original oldschool Grindhouse releasing movies now, so I buy those whenever I see them.
So the actual number of Horror / Gore / Splatter movies I have is almost 300 now.

dear god gore... *heh* ... well, you have given me quite a few ideas... I still can't get over that list... and by the way, my wife and I loved your comments... especially about chopping off the pee-pee :D
He didn't write all that out just for this thread. He still had the list from therapy.
The wee wee gets chopped off good too. But those dudes deserve it.
And I don't go to Therapy lol.
In the Mouth of Madness. Still creeps me out to this day. Cthulu Mythos stuff is just eerie.
O
So you're cured? Who knew?Quote:

Well by all means drop by! I just got some of my favorite Scottish beer in. We'll have a pint;)
Awesome, never been to the big NY before. I hear it's like Montreal, where everyone is rude and pissy all the time and the traffic is horrible.
And the only real difference is that Montreal has grass, and NYC don't. :DQuote:

Shazam
Pootie Tang
Waterworld
Soul Plane
Brokeback Mountain
And I like comic books but... The Fantastic Four series, yeah.
heh, yeah from what I heard, those movies are pretty scary. :)
Well, I was just looking at the first post and then I thought I would move down to the bottom to add a movie named as "The Haunting" (someone may say it isn't but seriously I couldn't walk towards toilet in dark for two days after watching the movie ... that was about 2 years ago!) and then I came accross gore'spost and I started thinking if you guys are really humans or not, or at least normal ones?
Now seriously, I am almost a 'fan' of gore. He runs his computer for 200 days, surfs the net, loves to listen to music, watches movies as if he himself own a complete movie library, knows a lot about the network, is just 24 years of age (ummm.... his profile says so) and still manages to call himself a HUMAN?? When do your type of people get a sleep? I dont understand this! Can someone tell me how you manage it, I think I will learn something on that side from you as well, gore!
That movie is awesome. I loved it. As for not sleeping, it's a little hard for those types of movies to bother you as much once you've seen REAL supernatural things. I mean a movie is one thing but I've heard tape recordings and video of stuff that has made me sleep odd before too.Quote:

There are way more talented computer dudes and girls here than me Believe me.
On the music end I don't know though, I'm not sure if anyone else here makes any. Don't get me wrong though if someone said they were a fan of me I'd be like wow. Thanks ;)

Just got done watching Dawn of the Dead... it is at least in my top 10 now ... lot of blood in that one... :) I managed to acquire a copy of cannibal holocaust, I think I might save that one for tomorrow...
Watch it now ! You'll LOVE the tour guide!
28 Days Later is the best I've seen in ages.
Steve
I thought that one was pretty good also. I haven't seen 28 weeks later yet... anyone seen it?
well, the version of cannibal holocaust I got was in spanish. so I guess I am back to square one on that one... :(
Ok, i watched cannibal holocaust last night....
I did not watch it on a whim, but I must urge people to LISTEN to the warnings. It is a VERY VERY graphic film, to such an extent it seems very real. The animal stuff was real, but the human stuff looked just as convincing, especially considering when it was made. This movie definatly made me think, but also turned my stomache at the same time. I would classify this as Gore instead of Horror, since I think they are different.
They are different. Gore is Splatter, it's what my name comes from. They aren't generally scary and more or less are there to shock. Goes back to Grindhouse days in NY where they played mostly Splatter.
Dawn of the Dead is splatter even though it has also scared people from what Tom Savini said.
I have to admit, I didn't have a problem watching cannibal Holocaust, except the rape scenes, because I can't stand rapists. But he gets what they all deserve in the end.
My Wife watched it with me for the first time, the only thing that bothered Her was the Spider lol.
So you going to watch Cannibal Ferox next? It's a good one too, same kind of movie just add Scarface to Cannibal Holocaust and you have Cannibal Ferox.
It's OK, but it's not as good as 28 days.Quote:

Last night I watched one that ranks high up there:
My Wife bought "Feed the Masses" and it's AMAZING! It has some obvious homage to the original Dawn of the Dead in that it takes place a lot in a news studio with people shooting news, a marine named Roger runs with them when they have to go cover, and the people in the govt are basically saying it's OK it's under control, please act normal and go shopping and whatever else to ignore it and the movie is VERY low budget.
However instead of being the usual low budget Zombie movie, it gives you what you want in a Zombie movie in this class:
There is blood and gore
There is humor (The main guy who shoots film realizes he forgot his pot at home and freaks out, tackles a Hippie Zombie and steals his pot) it's very funny.
And just for WTF value the soldier goes into one of those booths with a stripper where you watch a girl with a news microphone with a dildo attached dance around and when he gets close to finishing he hits a button and a Zombie runs out and bites her neck open and then a big dude comes out with a Chainsaw to finish off the Zombie.
It's weird, it's funny, it's bloody, it's awesome.
just wondering am i the only fan of the army of darkness movies?????
