Ethernet Network Card Problem
Hey,
I have a friend who is trying to connect their Windows XP laptop to a wired ethernet network. The problem is when one connects an ethernet cable to the laptop and to the network and then one looks in Network Connections the connections just reads "Network Cable Unplugged" :fpissed: .
I am working on the assumption that this problem is being caused by a driver error. The current network card and driver are Intel(R) PRO/100 P Mobile Combo 5.41.22.0000.
I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
Thanks in Advance,

I too have an Optiplex GX260 (mini tower). I keep getting an error saying cable unplugged (and have tried several good cables) .. so I disabled the integrated Ethernet and have tried 3 different PCI Ethernet cards (which windows (xp) reconized and installed the correct drivers. But I'm still getting the same error saying "cable unplugged" ... I have also tested the cables with other puters and they work fine. I'm not sure what winsock is (I used to know back when I was going to school for PC repair, but it's been years. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me with this so I can network my PC's together ... they both are on-line but one with a wireless PCI card (Optiplex GX260) and the other (Optiplex GX620) connected directly to my DSL modem via a CAT 5 cable. Thanks again (in advance) for any help/advice anyone can give. ... pc_addict
