This problem occured to a friends computer and i can not for the life of me figure out how she got that toolbar to show up on the left side like that nor how to remove it. I have tried to remove it by reseting windows display settings and came up with no change I could realy use some advice on this one.

Have you tried setting your desktop display to "classic" mode?
When you right mouse click in the bar what options do you get?

Put your mouse on the task bar.
right click unlock the task bar
left click the task bar and then drag it where you want it
right click the task bar and lock it again
Windows XP, their is no option for clasic mode and I don't get any options when I right click on the bar.
Have you tried rebooting? If you haven't, maybe the screen just froze{sorry for the obvious, had to ask} --
Does your friend use any 3rd party theme systems (windowblinds, etc...)?
that is an odd problem :confused: , maybe mess around in control panel a little bit

There is no windows classic in her drop down box. Tried rebooting Nothird party theme systems.

It must be the folder options then?
Windows Explorer> Tools> Folder Options> select: "use windows classic
folders"?
Also disable the "share common tasks in folders" option or whatever it is called.
I am not working on an XP box at the moment, so I cannot check the precise detail :(

and download his program, run it and you'll be g double-o d. If you're uneasy about running it, there's also a link to the VBScript file so you can see what you're going to run.

Yes, that is where Windows tends to store such values; hence the advice to try conventional Windows options first :rolleyes:Quote:

And if you are going to mess with the Registry, learn how to back it up and restore it FIRST.

I am curious as to why the original poster cannot seem to find the "Windows Classic" mode in XP :confused:
I guess that my next move would have been to re-register shell32
regsvr32 /i shell32
That should fix it in theory, at least?

But, with someone else's machine that still works, you back up the Registry first ::angel2::
