Why the music industry can eat my ass

As technology progresses forward, often times old ways are replaced by new, better methods of doing things. This is very true for music and the internet. Before the internet there was a need for a layer between artists and fans. This layer consisted of marketing, packaging, shipping, and selling of cds, tapes, records, ect.. Currently most of the money brought in from these sales goes to this layer, artists make their money from performing shows for fans. With the emergence of file sharing programs the need for this layer has passed. I suggest we do everything in our power to remove this layer. The internet provides a level playing ground for all artists, it allows fans to appreciate music without filling the wallets of greedy corporate dickheads. I call out to all music fans, don't give your money to this layer, save your money to spend on shows, to reward the actual artists and prevent the profits of these *****s.

Lol, these hardcore capitalist companies have the right to earn money too...
BTW, I prefer buying a cd over burning one, a bought one is better quality but the main reason is the emotional value. I'd never want my nirvana cd's to be self-burnt, this may sound silly but it is (with me). If you love music and don't just like it you should understand this.

actually el-half your reasoning is the same as those that lived threw the era of cassette tapes. the music industry was up in arms because people had the ability to record music without paying for it. the courts ruled in favor of the people that time and the music industry still grew.

when there was no "coolness" to having homemade music one was considered rather crude to have a collection of pirated music. it was like 'whats the matter cant you buy tapes?'. people that could buy them, bought them just to have the real thing. people that couldn't afford to but wanted to listen to the music bootleged. no sales was lost.

but i agree with hiddeninclouds . if the music industry cannot survive in the digital age then they shouldn't. i really hope they go the way of the dinosaur. people would be better off for it. they hype things that really aren't very good and in effect control what people get to hear putting chains on creativity. if a band does not play what the industry is currently hyping they don't get published. the cost of hyping crap brings the price of everything skyhigh. it really is time for a change

What's a Burning a CD? I'm still playing with 78's and 45's. Gonna buy one of those new fangled 4-track players pretty soon. And then I'm gunna save up for a reel-reel player, so I can record my own from my vinyls. :D

That was my generation and we lived through almost exactly the same thing that is going on right now. The record companies opposed all tape recording devices that would be owned by the private citizen. Their fears were exactly the same as the cd mega-companies. And I'll be darn, after looking at the names of those cd companies, most of them were the same companies back in the late 60' and 70's. Well I guess they didn't go broke after all! :eek: That was their claim back then as well as now!

Well, I still make my own private collections from all my stacks and stacks of cds that I bought from the store. Additionally, we pay download sites for music as well. So what the heck are they complaining about! I probably bought they a Mercedes with my purchases alone! Yea, you're right. They can kiss the brown eye.

making something as easy as d/l'ing mp3's a crime only glamorizes it. it can kind of make a kid or an immature adult (like me) feel like 'i got over on them'. a minor thrill in an otherwise boring day. but i really think the record industry knows that. they have too, its a part of their past. IMHO there must be some ulterior motive in play here.

But you are right..... It's nothing we haven't seen before... Just like when we were kids we thought our parents were old fogies who had no idea what "being bad" was and how we were so much smarter then them.... as goes the youth of today.... still thinking the same thing that every generation has ever thought..... everyone else knows nothing, they never experienced anything like "I" am now.... they don't understand..... Need I go on.... <sigh>

This is the exact reason why there is an age limit on being president of the USA..... They don't want the prez being busted by the RIAA..... ;)

It's not uncommon for me to say something and then think to myself..... "OMFG, that was my Dad.... I promised myself I would never be like him"..... Turns out, with the old 20/20 hindsight my old man is a damned fine man.....

Yeah, I just forgot about that, due to the extreme commercialisation there are people that just listen to everything that is currently mainstream, if the big record companies got down, mainstream music would be music instead of some product to sell. And indeed, people that really want to real thing would buy it anyway, other's would download it or whatever.
The non-hardcore-capitalist record companies don't really suffer anyway from the download-away-from-the-net thing.

I can't count the number of times I have heard exactly the same thing. "You don't know what I'm going through". The smartest man on the earth was my father and I like most, didn't learn that until much later in life. Some how he got smart as can be after I grew up and went on my own. Can't figure out which school he went to. :eek: Of all the things he said relative to our subject here, this is the one that I remember the most.
