just don't give out your email adress :D
it's the only 100% proven way to stop spam..
don't allow people to add you to mile long CC lists (stupid jokes and pictures)
kick all people that do the above (just a little kick in the butt never hurt anyone)
don't ever give out your email adress to "shady" bussinesses and fora etc..
as for the popups, I might advice http://toolbar.google.com/ the google toolbar
as the_JinX said google is quite good at blocking popups.
but somehow i was bothered when i read this article bout the toolbars possible exploits http://www.greymagic.com/adv/gm001-mc/ ..
well its an old article but worth reading. I still dont know if this flaws were fixed. :)
you can forget this mail account...
the best way to handle spam is to ignore it, because every click to "unregister" link does the opposite. Actualy you are letting spamer know that this mail account is active...
There is one thing. Now that you have e-mail known to sppamers, use it for registration on bunch of free sites, forums etc.
Most of the time you won't get anything usefull from those sites... the only thing you need is activation code....
I sugest that you create another e-mail account and follow instuctions from The_Jinx...
some mail clients ( kmail for instance ) have a nifty feature..
It allows you to send a (fake) Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender mail back, that works on some spammers ;)
My email account receives some two to eight spam messages a day, so a couple of months ago I decided to install a freeware spam blocker called Spamihilator. Since that only few spam messages have come through. Spamihilator uses different kind of filters: one is based on keywords and the other is a learning filter. Basically you just tell the program which messages are spam and which are not and it starts to recognize patterns. I was amazed how easy it is to use: it integrated seamlessly and automatically even to Opera's M2 mail client that I'm using.
Apparently Opera 7.5 has also got a learning spam filter but since it's only a beta (or Release Candidate 1... can't remember) and I'm already using Spamihilator I haven't checked if it works.
I'm not sure if Spamihilator works with IMAP servers. And of course it cannot do anything if you've got a webmail account.
Wrong... Spammers combine known host names with generated or known user names. Besides it's already too late for him to do that. ;pQuote:

Another thing that could reduce the amount of spam is to not disclose your Email on a public forum. There's bots everywhere that pick them up and send them to their host, which in return they send spam.
Reduce but not eliminate.
When I set up a new e-mail account on my ISP for my son I used a pretty common name so he could remember it (he was only eight at the time). This account was spamed with hardcore porn 10 min after set up. Talk about pissing me off here I am showing my kid how to access his e-mail and what the first message that comes across “do you want 4 inches added to your c#*k”. But it’s all good because it led me across the internet looking for solutions and to AO believe it or not.
