My friends and I are setting up a network in a basement. There is a WinME, a Win98, and a WinXp Home. So 3 computers, and a D-Link ethernet router.
All we have accomplished is file/printer sharing. How is it that we set-up for LAN parties, and such. We want to play games across the LAN, but the games never recognize the LAN, nad we're not sure exactly if there's something to do outside of the game configuration. Any help is appreciated.

What your gonna need to do on the the computers is set up a static IP on all 3 computers.
start-->control panel-->network connections.
For windows 98 and ME scroll down till you see something that says
TCP/IP (your ethernet adapter name here)
FOr windows XP, just select your Local Area Connection and hit propeties and scroll down on that first page till you see TCP/IP Then hit properties.
highlight it and select properties.
From there, select Use the following IP address
For one computer put in something like 192.168.1.10 and a Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
Then for your second one put in 192.168.1.11 and so fort using the same subnet mask.
Are you also connected to the internet through that router?
Also if your using any firewalls, your gonna have to either add your IP range on your network to the trusted zone, or you'll have to completely disable the firewall.
i want to network apple mac system with windos systems.. how will i do that guys? tthe apple mac is scan server that support or has scanner installed and then connect to switch that network all the systems in within my network.
I wo't neg you, since you're new. But you shouldn't post in old threads. Old threads are the ones that have the dates flashing. I created this thread back in February. You need to start a new thread, have a decent subject, and give a detailed post of the OS(s) involved, as well as hardware, and the general purpose of the network or w/e you're trying to do.
