While I agree with almost all of the opinions above, I would also like to note that lots and lots of work goes into preparing for such an expedition like this one... and its incredibly expensive to...

I don't know the details, but our university took our code submissions and ran them against a database of known answers to the questions... this would then rank the code on...

I think they would be able to filter this traffic with a device like packeteer.
If they are wanting to restrict access, the things they have most control over is the network.
