Have you checked your win.ini or autoexec.bat file for this call?

Maybe there is another .ini file being called from your startup?

What programs do you have starting at startup? I would check their .ini's too!

    Then work backwards from there.

Might be your boot record too.

    Hope this helps!

I once removed Sub7 from a system by hand, using regedit.
It went really weird on me...
I fixed it by re-installing the virus, and then using "the cleaner" by moosoft to remove the trojan.

Can you still use the computer after that error comes up?
Or does everything go wonky afterwards?

But I doubt you still have whatever file it was that you removed when removing that virus...

Here is what I do with any sort of problem like that:

    1.
    Start by booting into Safe-Mode,
Does the computer operate in Safe Mode?
Did the Error still come up?

If Not, Then move on to Step 2

If the Error did still come up, then your pretty much screwed...
I'd start looking for the file you deleted.

    2.
    Boot using step-by-step confirmation.
Load everything except do not initialize the windows registry.\

    Did the computer start fine?
    Did the Error come up?
If not, then the problem is in the Registry,
Fix this by taking all of the entries out of
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" and out of
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices"

Put them back in a few at a time, restarting the computer each time until the error comes back.

When the error comes back, you've found the faulty entry.
    Delete it!

If the problem was not in the registry, then continue to step3!

    3.
Try removing all the files from the LOAD section of win.ini
It should be at the very beginning.

If it doesnt make a difference, then that is not the problem.

Files can also be loaded from autoexec.bat, config.sys and a few other places, but they're unlikely for programs of the level that Sub7 runs at.

And only a completely retarded programmer would load his virus from autoexec.bat.

The Boot record is only used with assembly level viruses...
    Not things like trojans.

If you want to simplify this process...
then you can use system mechanic by iolo,
its free for a 30 day trial, and you can give yourself another 30
days by changing the firstrun key in the registry to have a value of 0.

You can use the program's startup manager, and disable items, instead of dealing with importing and exporting things all the time.
