    linux and winblows

I need some help with setting up a network between Red Hat 6.2 and Winblows 2000, and 98 SE...does anyone have any tips on doing this, maybe some online tutorials?

Are you talking about the physical network (NICs, hubs, etc) or the software side of it (getting them to talk to each other)?

That is pretty easy - just make sure that each machine has a NIC (network interface card) in them. You will also need a small 4 or 5 port 10/100 ethernet hub. Then get some category 5 cable - one cable for each computer to connect to the hub.

You can usually get kits with everything you need to get 2 computers together. Get one of those to save some money then get one more NIC and cable to get the third computer in.

    also

If you know much about TCP you need to set up correct IP addresses that connect the network together, there are a few ways to look at it, its different if you want one server that is in charge of workstations, or you can have alot of stand alone workstations that talk to eachother and share internet connections.

Its not too hard, get some TCP/IP networking books, go to your local library, they help a whole lot.

also check that for the network cards you will use for the linux machines, you can get linux drivers from the net or with the kit. if it is can use a generic driver e.g. realtek, tulip, etc. then you are in luck.

    configuration?

If by software, you mean configuration. If you just want to get the machines up and running (and talking) and are not worried about sharing an internet connection (good place to start, just to make sure things are working correctly) Give the three machines the following IP addresses (You can do this during setup):
    machine #1 - 192.168.10.10
    machine #2 - 192.168.10.11
    machine #3 - 192.168.10.12

Those are private addresses, which are reserved for private networks not connected to the Inet.

If you want to connect all three machines to the Internet and you have a broadband connection, I suggeset the Linksys cable/dsl router/firewall. For newbies, it's a lot easier then trying to configure your Linux box as a router, or any of the other available options. I'll explain more about that option l8r if you're interested........

    Talking interested

I' extremely interested in learning how to configure it as a router....this linux box is going to be a webserver with a wireless connection.....we already have all of the equipment we should need for this task....8 and 4 port NetGear hub.....
