    Question Root Password

Here is my problem. I have Windows 98 and Linux Mandrake 7.2 on my computer. I was in Linux and I forgot my root password. I have my user passwords though. Is there anyway I can recover my password? Could it be saved anywhere? Thanx, Peace.

Not sure about Linux, but on HPUX you can bring the box up into single user mode, which bypasses a login and takes you directly to a root login. At that point you can edit the /etc/passwrd file by removing the encrypted password entry in the file. If you can reboot Linux into single user mode or an equvielent that should do it. Good Luck!

Yep, you can... Like HPgeno says, boot in single user then reset the root password... I'm sure you can find the exact method in a mandrake FAQ... (I know it is in RedHat faqs cuz this happened to me before...)
