Please please help me format
Hi all,
Can someone here please tell me how I format my hard drive?. I am running windows 98se and when I type in "format C:" and press enter I get a message saying wrong or incorrect parameter?
Can someone please tell me what im doing wrong.

I have had this problem once before. Let me see if I can remember how I got around it.....
First off, did you boot off the hard drive on the command prompt, or did you use a boot disk? If you booted off the hard drive like I suspect you did, try using a boot disk. I think that's how I got around it. I don't understand why that's the way it is, but I think it's maybe because it's running some windows services off the hard drive. That's the reason you can't format the hard drive when you boot normally, so I would suspect the same applies when you boot in DOS mode.
Give it a try and let me know.

Thanks alot for your reply...I have managed to sort the problem by booting from the disc..after hours of frustration.
