Divx CODECS
Ok I downloaded a ton of DIVX files off of "Morpheus" the file sharing util for windows..
When I goto play any of these files.. its completely black all the way through.. no sound.. no video.. but it counts like its playing..
I know i have all these files completely downloaded..
I installed divx4 codec and players.. and same result..
I also installed the divx3.11 codec after that... and still the same..
What is going on?
IS there other codecs?

Have you tried www.divx.com, downloaded some of the codecs from there?

hey evilseed...
What are you using to play the files?
I knw that when I try to play Divx's using Windows media player, I get a lot of them not working properly, either by horrible sound, no sound, or its too dark to see or the movie just stops moving, but the counter continues...
However, when I use Tha Playa to watch them, there is no problem whatsoever.....
Give Tha Playa a go, unless your already using it, and then I just have no idea.. I'm not a media person....

When I installed The Playa, I'm pretty certain I got an option to use the 3x codec to play one 3x files, and the 4x codec for 4x files...
I chose to do this, as I read on their site a while back that they were having a bit of trouble getting the compatibility working properly...
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the codec...
unless I misunderstood your reply, which is highly likely...

Everyone is dumping on Windows Media Player. I don't know why. I use windows media player 6.4 with the DivX 4.02 codec and everything is smooth.
(CAUTION: Don't get any version above 6.4 cause it runs real slow.) If you have already installed a higher version, there is a trick I learned to help with the bad speed of WMP 7 and higher. If there is any interest, reply to this post and I will tell you.
As for The Playa, I used it and it sucked. It kept stopping the movies, caused my hard drive to go into endless grinds, and kept locking up the entire system.

I've never had one problem with Tha Playa...
Could you tell me the trick, as one of my friends insists on installing the latest version on my computers when I lend them to him, even though I specifically say no...
