Federal agents seized heaps of computers and terrabytes of data in 27 U.S. cities on Tuesday morning.
The "Operation Buccaneer", was directed towards DrinkOrDie (DOD).
Investigators are looking for 56 people and expect to find about 130 computers.
The locations they chose include MIT, UCLA, Purdue, Duke and the University of Oregon, as well as some companies.

So now you all know what warez are, go and hide them

Well if they plan to end warez they have a huge problem, I dont use warez out of respect for developers not the big companies but I know so many people who would swear by warez.

'Im only gonna use it once, why pay'

Stopping warez would be like trying to stop porn sites. In other words, impossible.

Warez sites can pop up for a short time and disappear. And there are so many of them that it'd be impossible to get them all. Yes, the biggest one's may go, as an example for others like Napster was for mp3 downloaders.

It's a noble goal but it'll only serve to satisfy the companies who still make tons of money and just want an extra hundred thousand off of one already many-times-purchased cd. And the people who use warez will be infuriated. Oh, and last time I checked, there were more warez users than mighty corporations.
    Why am I still here?

I agree completely with your sentiments. but I feel warezs will be around forever. Developers work hard but rarely get the respect they deserve in the company.

    Red face

I have to admited, I use WAREZ. The reason is because I like to try new software before buying it.

I never buy software for myself though, but I do have all the licenses for my network at work. Yeah, some of you will say "use the trial version", but not all software have a trial version, and some trial versions are limited.

How did I get to know that Office XP is nothing than waste of money if didn't buy it?, warez, pirate software and illegal copies...

if it wasn't for warez, it would be very difficult to learn about many things. i can't afford it. the up side of this is, if its good software that aids productivity, i recommend it to the company i work for and they buy it, in quanty.
this is not a rationalization for my illegal acts, if i like it, i keep it. if i can afford it, i pay for it.

Smart college kids use warez because:
    A. They can't find freeware that does what I want and if it does, it expires after 2 days.
    B. They don't know where all these magical open source programs are that are high quality and they know how to use.
    C. They can't make their own because either a) they aren't in computer science and don't know how and/or b)they're too busy studying for exams.
    D. Generally because they are POOR and can't afford to purchase the program themselves. This includes me. When I get a job and have more the 2 cents in my checking account I will purchase the originals from the store. Until then, I can't afford it.

It's from the bible and is actually "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." This is quite true in our day and age.

    Thumbs down

    dfgt5:

I think that your comment was way out of point. My job is taking care of a network for people that knows almost nothing about computers. People that think that Windows is the same as monitor.

I need to give to this people easy to use software. If you can get me an Open Source as easy to use and as "idiot" proof as Inbound's Quickbooks (as example), I promise not to use warez anymore (yeah right!!).
    ------------------------------------------

I agree in everything with Stronzo. I work hard to pay University. I come from a different country, with no support from anybody and that's why I don't have time to write my own Open Source programs... sorry, but life is hard...
    and exams are next week.
