Thread: You can change the world...

Lightbulb You can change the world...

This message was brought to you in part by the truth.

I thought it was an interesting article on how fast useful information can travel. To let you know how much one post, one tutorial, or one reply to a message, e-mail, or whatever can spread.

    INFECT TRUTH
Infections start small. They grow slowly at first, taking hold undetectably. But before you know it, the infection's taken root. It becomes a living thing with a mind all its own. It becomes unstoppable.

That's how movements start too - with little undetectable pockets that grow. If you can infect truth and spread knowledge to a couple of people a day, and maybe they infect a couple more the next day, in just two weeks almost 33,000 people could hear that message - your message. In a month it could reach more than 4 billion - with a "B." You can move mountains with a whisper. You can change the world.

We'll do our best to get you the tools and the knowledge.

    This can be unstoppable.

    Infect truth.

    infections

Maybe thats why they call them computer Virii. The spread like crazy. Yeah a little message can travel far and fast. The problem is, what is that message? If it is truth, then everthing is well and good. But what if it isn't. How do you think terrorist organizations get started. Some people will believe anything, good or bad. So if you can get your message of terror to 10,000 people, and 5% of them believe it, you suddenly have an army of 500 people that are willing to die for you. Another couple of examples are Jim Jones and David Koresh. For those that don't know or remember, they started "religions" where most of the members ended up dying. Jones made everyone drink cyanide laced koolaid. Koresh got a weapons arsanal, and a government raid went bad. This is just a couple small examples.

The moral: Infect truth, but don't believe what you hear.

Life is just a series of decisions, each one can alter your future and you can possibly end your life at any moment. Do you really want to be under the care of the Microsoft Support Center?!?!

meme is a virus of the mind

MEME: (pron. 'meem') A contagious idea that replicates like a virus, passed on from mind to mind. Memes function the same way genes and viruses do, propagating through communication networks and face-to-face contact between people. The root of the word "memetics," a field of study which postulates that the meme is the basic unit of cultural evolution.
    {definition taken from: http://memex.org/meme.html }

and another site had a brain being injected by a syringe...how appropriate!

Maybe thats why they call them computer Virii.
-May be that's why they call them computer mentors.

    The spread like crazy.
    -*They* spread like crazy.

Yeah a little message can travel far and fast.
    -If it's important enough.

The problem is, what is that message?
-I agree. It dose depend on what message is being sent.
But look at the Hacker's manefisto. It was written a long while ago and it's still spreading. It's still being read by the thousands.

If it is truth, then everthing is well and good.
    Indeed.

    But what if it isn't.
-Then there's going to be some problems.

How do you think terrorist organizations get started.
-How do you think :security: orginizations get started.

Some people will believe anything, good or bad.
-True. I hope that most of you don't though.

So if you can get your message of terror to 10,000 people, and 5% of them believe it, you suddenly have an army of 500 people that are willing to die for you.
-It dosen't necessicarily have to be a message of terror and destruction. A few people are fond of helping others.

    - A couple of more examples are the people who wrote various tutorials on a wide range of topics. A great security writer who goes by the alias "Raven" of the Black Sun Research Facility is a good example of how fast information spreads. Another example, "Captain Crunch"? i can't remember if that was the correct nick that he went by, but he's wrote a few tutotials on how to build a phreak box and others have as well. It all really depends on the author and the message being sent.
