    Also might not be present if you are not currently dual booting though of this I am really not sure, I dont think it would be.
    boot.ini is present at all times, basically it contains the location of the boot location. <wouldn't have guessed it from its name tho>

    Why don't you use LILO BOOT from the linux ????????
    If God had intended
    Man to program,
    we would be born
    with serial I/O ports.
