    Red face Some sort of Proxy services for Mac OS X 10.x

    Hello from Sydney!

    I must come up with a very interim solution that involves implementing a newer and more stable proxy solution, hopefully on this Mac G4 Server/Mac OS 10.x that I just have sitting around. Can anyone recommend something that could replace the dodgy WebSTAR 4 proxy that is currently running in this environment.

    I have seen a version of Squid that was ported over to Mac OS X, but the distribution I have downloaded seems to be corrupted from Denmark or some other far off place. Not like I am against Squid, but I would like to explore some other options.

    Of course when the time comes in about 2-3 months, I can put in an ISA 2000 server with SurfControl, etc.

    Any thoughts?

    OS X come with a caching web proxy service built in. At least they say it somewhere on the right side of the page, near the middle/bottom.

    Another option is to use the mod_proxy module for Apache(which comes with OSX server supposedly, so maybe that is what apple means you to use).

    i am very intrigue on the mac os X, sad to say that i don't do mac. let me try to use mac os X, people, give me something specific: HOW MUCH DOES MAC OS X COST? and IT IS A WORTH IT?

    Mac OS X sells for about $140

    at least at the staples near my office.

    The problem is, that you need to have the proper hardware to run it on. i.e. powerpc system, and NOT an Intel or AMD system.

    I was looking at some the Mac powerbook laptops the other day, and you can get a low end powerbook for about 1200 to 1500 dollars.

    perhaps you could

    perhaps you could get an ebay deal on a G4 workstation that would run OS X though.

    Interesting how apple talks up how cool their streaming proxy services however you can find no information. Maybe I am just blind.

    Thanks for the link to apache.org. Seems like an easy and efficient way to go.
