Port Surfing

Yo. I ama very big newbie in these areas and was wondering if anybody might be able to give me a tutorial on how to port surf. I dont have a clue on how it works and would be thankfull to whoever helps me out. Thanks.

I think you maybe mean port scan. If so, try a tool called NMAP

If you mean portscan, you can use a various selection of port scanners... I do not recommend scanning a whole range of ports on 1 target pc cause this will appear in the logs as very suspicious...

If you mean surfing (through a port) with a public proxy, search the net for a public proxy and fill in the ip in your browsers proxy settings.
you are then able to surf the net through the proxy. The proxy will handle all the web requests for you.
Common ports are 80, 8080 (for webservers) and 1080 (for socks).

Port Scanners:

These essentially are little programs that will test an IP ( or a range of IPs ) for open 'ports'. A port being a point where a system is open for communication. One of the best Port Scanners is 7th Spheres Port Scanner. I think you can find it in the archieves here. Or, its also in the archieves of Hackers.com.

If your'e looking for using the public proxy thingy, then Victor essentially expalined it pretty well.

I was talking about port Surfing through ports...I have a friend that was gonna teach me but decided not to seeing how if I got caught...He thought I might bring him down with me(WOuldnt do that) but Im really stuck on this Port surfing stuff...Hope y'all can help...

Disorder here you go:

With port surfing you probably mean, surfing through an open proxy port on another computer?
I will use your terminology to explain it:

example:

a) without "port surfing"

You -------> your ISP -------> webpage

b) with 'port surfing'

You -----> your ISP -----> public proxy ----> webpage


How is it done?

Search for a public proxy on the port you want to use (like for instance 80, port 80 is used for HTTP)

here's a working example of a public proxy (I have no idea if the 'public' is intended or not by the owners, so don't complain to me when you are performing illegal operations)
164.58.10.124:80

You have to put this IP adress in your browser
the IP is 164.58.10.124 the port is 80

How do you do this?

In IE 5.x and IE 6.x go to EXTRA ---> Internet Options ---> connections ---> LAN settings ---> proxy servers ---> HTTP at those fields you fill in the IP and the port. Press OK and you will be surfing through others port... I mean the proxy server will handle your requests.

In Opera 6 go to file ---> preferences ---> network ---> proxy servers ---> HTTP

In Netscape 4.x and later: got to edit --> preferences ---> advanced ---> proxies ---> HTTP


There are sites that list public proxies, use google to find one. If you don't find any; contact me and I will send you a list (if you are descent)

I would not recommend to use this "port surfing" as only precaution to avoid being caught... not all public proxies really hide your IP... and many proxies will give their logs to governements when asked. So if you really want to do malicious things or illegal things you might consider looking up with WHOIS where the public proxy server is located, if it is somewhere at a country with no good governement or bad agreements with other countries, you are pretty save (let's say: all islands in the pacific which are not under the jurisdiction or influence of US or EU are good) Then you need to check if the proxy really hides your IP.

(Anyway I do not support illegal malicious use of the method I described above)
