    Post AOL + RedHat = ?

WASHINGTON--Media and Internet titan AOL Time Warner is in negotiations to acquire Linux distributor Red Hat, the Washington Post reported Saturday, citing unidentified sources familiar with the matter.
According to CNET News.Com AOL/AOL Time Warner are getting ready to acquire Red Hat, the biggest distributor of Linux in the world.

The attempted acquisition is the latest indication that AOL is seeking alternative software to that made by rival Microsoft, the maker of Windows which runs 90 percent of the world's personal computers, the Washington Post said.
Now why would AOL want to fight back against Micro$oft ?

    Disgusting!

That is one of the most insulting pieces of news I have heard in my whole computer half-life (4 years+)... that again would be another really insulting this for Linux... to buy RedHat? I would never buy another recent distro of RedHat again!
Welcome to Hell , where we have served more than all of the fast food chains put together! And the number grows everyday! Stay tuned!

Yea,... It sucks. I can just imagine all of their ads on tv.

    'All new RedHat Version 7.0'
And it will probably live up to AOL's fine past

    Porn-Mail every 5 minutes... The'll probably just make it a X-Windows distro

    Angry

AOL to buy RH? Well, there went that distro...and if RH has any smarts about them, they'll know that AOL isn't anything near 'the best', no matter what they put on tv as 'testimonials'. I mean, they FINALLY got broadband, and it's been out, how long? Not to mention the porn ads, etc etc. Mirabilis anyone? ICQ went to shite after being bought by AOL. The *only* thing going for AOL is the backbones they have.
We the willing, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long that we are now qualified to do just about anything with almost nothing.

Yeah I would have to say that I've seen things similiar in this nature but not seeing an actual atricle about a rumor that AOL is going to buy Red Hat linux. I've heard many storys about how AOL will take over. I've heard storys that AOL actually creating there own operating system, and products which are basically clones. But since AOL is as just and may be more powerfull then microsoft in might just be the company that puts an end to Microsoft.

I have to agree with psychosquee on this one. Red Hat is a wonderful distribution, but if somebody like AOL buys it, I won't go near it. They would ruin it. This kinda runs along the same lines as the MS Linux thread. It would be an insult to Red Hat.

It's kinda like when NVidia bought 3DFX. They cancelled the Voodoo line! I remember hearing that, and I was so pissed! I loved the Voodoo cards. They were so much better than the Ge-Force (dual-processor.....*drool*). I've even got a Voodoo 5 AGP in this one. I still don't know who I'm going to buy my next card from, but it's not going to be Ge-Force.
