    simple programs and possibly a text game to start then get harder.

    Which OS do you use?

    If you are using Windows you could try Visual Basic (ok: others out here don't start flaming me for this)
    Or if you are just learning the concept of programming you could use TurboPascal to make some simple programs or even BASIC

    a very powerfull language is C++
