Nice feature JP. For linux users, just open the url http://www.antionline.com/ticker.php in a new browser window. It will open up a new window whenever you use it so there shouldnt be a problem. Good job JP.
Same for mac users using IE 5..

Yaaay. I previously did this by parking opera on the "results of get new posts" search, and setting it to not download images, and setting it to refresh every X seconds (customizable). But I guess this is even better in terms of bandwidth!.... Refreshing every 3 minutes? That's far too long!

Short Suggestions:
Append the name of the last poster on. It makes it a lot easier to work with. I mean, for instance, you reply to a post. Someone else replies to the same post. You don't see a difference on the screen, because it's the same post name.
Also, it shows the Usenet posts too... If they stay, maybe add a tiny icon to show that it isn't part of the forums?

One thing: When I put the ticker in the window, it was only two lines tall. Perhaps a way to make it a few lines longer if in a seperate window?
Other than that, really cool.
Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive (the dang thing blew up)

Just one thing - when I click on a link in this toolbar, it opens up the page in IE for me. I always use Opera and have it set up as my default browser, but these AO ticker links always open up in IE - am I missing something here, is there a way to make it open up in Opera or not??
Thanks,
Greg

Disclaimer: This should work in theory, I havent tryed it yet. Use at your own risk.
You will probably have to change the default application in the file types dialog box..I don't know if there is an easier way or not...since I havent used Opera enuff to really know it well.
In explorer...Tools...Folder Options...File Types...find the extension that you need to change...
click Change...and then navigate to the exe file for Opera. At least thats how it works in W2k..I believe that its pretty close to that for Win9x...
Edit The links are .php estensions..you mey have to create a new file type association.
