Search through the libraries at Antionline.

Here is the latest topic on a dual boot computer.

    walk with the master,
    see through the master,

    Simple

    Install WinXp normally.
Then install Linux witch Lilo in the master boot record. (Customize your installation).

    That it!

In my opinion first install Linux and then windows XP that will help you in booting your system wiht LILO and then you can have dual booting wiht LILO. As SDK said, installing XP first will set your drive with FAT and if after that you install linux it will be partitionless installation and that will cost at speed of your system also the booting will be done through a floppy which i think you won't like. Same thing happened to me then i did as i said. Now everything is woking fine.

If you have no experience partitioning then get Partition magic. It safely partitions for you and installs a bootloader.
But what you can do is partition and then install RH, choose offcourse the desginated partition.
And whatever you do, make sure your WIN partition does not exceed 85% of it´s capacity or it will do funny things to your RH partition.

My method for you would be to create the partititions for linux first, at the start of the drive.
And then install XP into the remaining free space.. then after that is installed, install your linux distribution...

Why? If you install Linux first, when you install Windows XP it will remove LILO.. meaning you will have to install Linux again or use your linux boot disk to set LILO up again...

It just means it will take longer to get your computer how you want it if you install Linux first...

Pits9, what do you mean installing XP first will set your drive with FAT? You are able to choose your filesystem during the installation....

Also, I don't understand what you mean by
... if after that you install linux it will be partitionless installation and that will cost at speed of your system
also the booting will be done through a floppy which i think you won't like. Same thing happened to me then i did as i said. Now everything is woking fine.
I think think your system has been playing you around a bit Pits9... The only time I had to use a diskette to boot my computer, was when Linux was installed after the 1024th cylinder, and the version of LILO I was using didn't support the LBA32 parameter...

Very true. I learned this one the hard way. XP attempted to take over and run the show. XP has a psudo boot loader and it will screw things up.

The way I did it was. I installed XP Pro first then used Partition Magic and set my Linux partition and Linux swap partition. Then I installed Linux and set LILO. It has ran smooth without a hitch..........

LILO should work with XP. LILO jobs is to re-direct your BIOS to the correct system file (Ntldr, boot.ini for NT, 2000 and XP) of the OS you choose when LILO ask you when you boot. When you install LILO, you HAVE to install it in the Master Boot Record of your first disk.

    And like Matty_Cross said :
If you install Linux first, when you install Windows XP it will remove LILO.. meaning you will have to install Linux again or use your linux boot disk to set LILO up again...
You have to install Win XP and Linux with LILO after. Maybe that why you're LILO is failling.
