Is it ethical for web hosting companies to write fake third party reviews about themselves?

No it's not ethical, but everyone trying to sell anything online does it. Doesn't matter if ur trying to buy webhosting or penis pills, you gotta research the sites you do research on to find out what the real deal is...

Hmmmm,
Is it ethical for web hosting companies to write fake third party reviews about themselves?
Obviously not, but ethics and marketing have always made strange bedfellows.
Having said that, I wonder if "ethical" is what you mean, rather than "legal" or "permissible"?
In the UK for example, advertising is strictly regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority:

What is a grey area, and far more common I would imagine, is to pay a drone journalist/reviewer to do a write up for you. As you are paying them they aren't going to write anything bad, are they?............ but they are not an employee as such

John's point is well taken, marketing and ethical behavior are not often found in the same sentence.
