just like the shell and perl can be used for scripting and system administration under linux/unix
which language is favourable for system administration under windows??
Windows doesn't actually have too much of scripting languages... Although there is Perl for Windows also, check http://www.perl.com/ . And the DOS shell.. well... it just is what it is.
I guess it depends on what you want to do. For any kind of text handling I would suggest NoteTab (http://www.notetab.com), it has got its own scripting language and it can run other scripts like Perl.

Q: Why do computer scientists confuse Christmas and Halloween?
A: Because Oct 31 = Dec 25
Windows has WindowsScriptingHost, which runs VBS, JS, WSH. it comes with win98 and above.
For windows administration the choice is VB script(m$ choice anyway)
There are quite a few sites dedicated too it.
