Learning computers in the service!

Hello AO members I am a senior in high school I am going to graduate in June. I am thinking about joining the Marines after I graduate high school. But where do you guys think I could get a better education (and learn more about computers) at college or in the service? I want to get a degree in Networking and computer science I want to go and try to get a masters degree. Has anyone took these classes in the service (any service) need help?

I put 7 years in the U.S. Army, and to tell you the truth I didnt get much out of it. I was able to get one semester of computers knocked out. Even the GI bill doesnt help that much. But if you are going to get in make sure you get into a computer field before you sign anything. If they say they dont have any open then dont sign. theyll get you what you want sooner or later. Hey Ghost_25inf thank's for the advice. My family warned me about them doing stuff like that also! I'm kind of scared if I sign and he promises me I will get into the computer field, but somehow I go off to war instead I do not wanna do that. If that ever happenend their would be nothing I could do about either!

Some tips for you to remember when you go in to the recruters office.
tip 1: think of them as car sales men, all they want to do is sell you and move on because they know they wont ever see you again so they know they can screw you.
tip 2: Dont settle for anything less than what you want.
tip 3: If its not in writing then its not true, Im saying this because I asked for airborn and they told me I could get it when I get to my unit. not true.
tip4: even if you sign the paper you are not enlisted, your enlisted as soon as you raise your hand and say thoses words( I will serve my country CRAP)
tip 5: when you go to take the test to see if you are smart enough be sure to study. the higher the score the better the job you will get.
LAST tip: dont enlist as a private, go officer MO money.

I have a friend that is in the Navy. He has gotten a really good education there. He currently works on CIPERNET while on the USS Constelation. They have given him a really good education. There are really 4 ways to get a computer education.
1) College --> This gives you a general understanding of all things computer related.
2) Military ---> This gives you a specified understanding of what you work with (ie networks, cryptogrophy, etc)
3) Certs ----> This is also a spcecialized training on 1 single product.
4) Hands on --> Teach yourself and learn from people who know....This gives you the best education, but it is really hard to put on a resume. People don't care that I have owned a computer for the last 22 years, but they are impressed that I got a Bachelors Degree in Information Systems.
